Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

“I was more thinking about how she might handle her lower half with those thighs, but I guess the breasts could potentially end up in her face by accident too. And… where do you get this ‘fun bags’ from?”

The question at the end of that statement was accompanied with a head tilt and raised eyebrow.

“Also, I think I’ll pass on my personal Salvation assistant. Don’t need a commenter on my Thargoid fighting attempts, and I like the ship to myself.”

I relaxed in the seat a little more again. And kind of let another cat out of the bag, since it’d been on my mind even before I’d arrived here already.

“You know, seeing Kasumi like that, did make me wonder what I could get out of, well, ‘certain bodily enhancements’ myself.”

“Maybe not quite so extreme, though.”
11 Mar 2024, 10:25pm
"Aw. By 'copilot' I meant 'assistant'... Imagine that stupid software that comes with every new computer, datapad, holo-projector, made for clinical morons who can't press two buttons correctly, and..." the rest of the phrase was said quietly as a comment to nobody. "What really hurts my faith in humankind, some people really use it."

"And you two are just unstoppable, phah," I chuckled, but it a 'positive' way of doing so.

"What could you get? With realistic demands and good execution, you're going to get exactly what you want. With realistic demands, I should stress out again. What happened to both me and Kasumi are... Well... Accidents, so to speak."

Still, a trace of confused look remained on my face. Or, to be absolutely correct, I let it creep in and remain on my face, in order not to look absolutely boring-neutral.

"Vat-grown fat tissues, prog-cells, implants, all kinds of stuff. And I'm not surprised you asked this question exactly, though I'm a bit surprised that you asked me. I'm no doctor. And my only 'cosmetic' surgery was about turning my eyes from brown to violet more than a decade ago, when I was, like... Nineteen, or so. Everything else is injury treatment because my life is funny."
12 Mar 2024, 12:34am
“Well …”

I tapped my index fingers together.

“I guess, it’s more of the ‘personal’ way of asking rather than a doctor that I don’t really know, even if they’d be helpful with it because it’s their job, you know all that. And since the only other friend that I currently know was a little… on the side of recovering too much during the last meeting we had, I thought it’d be better to ask you about some thoughts on the subject.”

I took a deep breath.

“Really, I think I’d limit to, say, here.”

I straightened out on the seat rather than fully leaning into it, held the left shoulder parallel to the chest and put my right hand to its outer edge.

“That is, for down below. The other half… I’d have to experiment in that VR environment a little to see if I’d want to settle for E, or go higher and try F or G, to keep it in line with, you know, the lower half. But it might be getting a little heavy at that point. And going to H would basically double the size, which could be a bit much…”

I gave Ina an inquiring look as I leaned back again.

“So, what do you say?”

I didn’t expect a straightforward answer to it because it was personal, but it was still good in my mind to ask for someone else’s thoughts and advice. I also couldn’t really ask anyone else right now.

Or maybe I just didn’t trust that other friend to remain somewhat reasonable about it instead of saying ‘Go all the way’ on both ends.
12 Mar 2024, 2:21am
"Oh, you two have certainly found each other, phah. I guess I'm a kind of a... Counterbalance here."

I went silent for a moment, looking at Jana and her ways to describe what she wants, mostly to collect my thoughts together and form some kind of an answer.

"So... I'd say you what. You've much likely heard it a hundred times already, that it'd be heavy, impractical, inadequate, whatever. And it will. No friggin doubt. But I know it's your 'thing'," air quotes time, obviously, "you like it and you've probably tested it in VR in any possible way already."

"Also, unlike our friend Kas, you can revert or adjust stuff later, it's a matter of recovery periods, money and your natural resilience. So what...", I spread my arms and stretched my lips, raising an eyebrow, "...All those letters sound insane to me. But that's me and my own perception. If you're sure it's going to make you a bit more happy, then go for it, why not."

Emptying another can of tea in one big gulp, making it three, I put the empty cylinder right on top of its predecessor.

"Damn they're really small... Should order one-litre ones next time... So. That's mad but I'm not going to judge, I told the same to Kas. And who am I to judge anyway, phah. Like, it's difficult to say two things at the same time: I don't want to answer some shit just for the sake of it because it's obviously important to you, but, on the other hand, this is your body and I really have no say here."

"In short, yeah, it's mad, but I know you like that kind of mad stuff."
12 Mar 2024, 2:11pm
“Oh, come on. It’s not that bad. It… well, I’d say at least the part down below wouldn’t be that much more than yours when you were ‘smaller’, for lack of a better word, but I can only really try to imagine what that would’ve looked like.”

“As for up top, I’m honestly not sure. E would be like… what, 12.5, maybe 12.7, F… 15 and something, .24 maybe, G, 17.78. Centimeters.”

Each of those quick headmaths was separated by a second or a few while I figured them out, hoping I got them right.

“Meanwhile, you look at Kasumi… she’s probably twice the size of that, up to the F at least. Or overall. And that’s too far for me, though I can’t deny she looks hella hot.”

I paused.

“I… wasn’t planning on anything between us, though. Kinda not sure about that idea, or where you’re getting it from. I don’t think I said anything about that.”

I sighed.

“Don’t know if I’d want to think about that kind of thing anyway. At least, right now. Maybe I’ll consider doing this after the war is over, too. You know, I guess… mark the start of that ‘life building’ with it. Seems like you’ve done the same here.”

I spread my arms out in a referring gesture, to the surroundings. Ship and beyond.
12 Mar 2024, 3:14pm
"Phah," I made a wacky grin for a moment, "still pretty within the insanity range for me. And, Kas... She's just beyond insane, phah. Though, as I said, it doesn't carry any negative connotation."

"Thinking of parts... Don't forget the entire body. Like, I've never been thin like you, I've always been... Quite a chonker, phah," saying that, I leant back slightly and dropped a hinting look down on my stomach and then on my legs, left then right, crossed in front of me. "Never complained though. So whatever parts I have, they look proportional. I... guess. Phah. And, well, that's mostly muscle anyway."

"And speaking of you and Kas finding each other," I took both empty tea cans from the floor and held them in front of me, at a certain distance but slowly moving closer to each other, "I didn't mean... That. However, that's still all about 'who knows' and 'why nots'. I meant, you share that... Interest. And here's me, I'm not new to human oddities and sometimes I think I know more of them than a person probably should, but... Never heard of this one, let alone meeting someone in real. And now it's two of you."

Making a deep slow breath, I looked through the cockpit glass.

"And I don't think I build... We build anything here. Other than building up strength. See, that... Community. Nowadays, they aren't as numerous as random refugees, like... Fifteen thousand of them, out of like sixty, maybe seventy already in total. But they run the whole place. Except for the AXDF part of course. And they're almost like a nation of their own, with their businesses, little trading fleet, economy, politics, all that. A bit more than a year ago, they lived in a town. Their hometown, small but properly built, not stacked metal boxes. And, you may guess what had happened."

"So, this place sucks. And it was made to be that way, I presume. We evacuated the construction machinery, but they don't use it for anything other than stacking boxes and patching landing pads. This place sucks, but it should suck, to make people think about taking the town back one day. That's the idea, as far as I understand it."

"Yeah, that's a long story..."
12 Mar 2024, 3:35pm
“Let me guess, Thargoids? Considering how mad you get at the subject, I get the feeling it has to do something with them. Because we just had to go and poke the hornet’s nest instead of leaving them be where they wouldn’t have bothered us. Or, at least, not as much.”

I referred to the superpowers deciding to start taking their stuff and then acting surprised when retaliation occurred. Though it was also possible for me to mean the Proteus Wave, I didn’t bother elaborating. ‘Thargoids’ always seemed to be a touchy subject now, regardless of when and where, or with who. Unless you just spoke of shooting them in the face.

“But yeah, I guess you have kind of a point between her and me. And, let’s be honest, most people would call you insane for this as well.”

I winked in a playful way.

“Guess those are the benefits of not really caring what other people think too much unless they’re close. Still, I think I’ll hold off from doing anything like this until the war’s gone away. Or until we know if it is actually all going to work out, instead of just resulting in an even bigger slap in the face. I’m sure I’d get more out of it without eight… well, seven now, flower-shaped symbols of doom over our heads.”

I sighed.

“Call me a cynic, but even though that Titan got nuked alive, I’m not so sure whether to really believe it’s completely done for. And that torpedo trick might not work twice on the same one.”

I shook my head, trying to clear it of… that.

“Yeah, anyway. I don’t think our thing is that rare. I mean, surely you’ve heard of some people who’ve gone through surgery for a, uh, ‘enhancement, before. Even if it’s without that other weird component. And I’ve also already done some research on it, this was more me just asking ‘What do you think’. Because, to be completely honest, I don’t think I’d have gotten any very rational advice from that other person I could have asked.”

I said that last sentence in a mildly joking tone, as it was both a light dig at Kasumi for her totally oversized body proportions, but also me being aware that she probably wouldn’t be the best source of it because of that.

“And if you’re ‘worried’ about it looking a little disproportionate, don’t be. That’s kind of the point. And if it doesn’t bother the person who’s like that …”

Didn’t need to finish that one. We both knew the answer, or so I assumed, at least.
13 Mar 2024, 10:19am
"Hm," I raised an eyebrow inquisitively. "And what makes you think it makes me mad? Like... I always call bastards bastards and fuckers fuckers, nothing new here. Though... Considering you're one of those who blame humans, at least mostly, for the war..."

Letting out a long sigh, I shrugged and let my arms hang loosely.

"No surprise. Like living next to aggressive spacefaring species cannot force us into fighting a war because of... Literally anything else."

I've been losing any interest in discussing the Thargoids and the war with her already, but at that point it seemed like the topic had gone past the invisible threshold of becoming not interesting at all.

"Meh," I shrugged. "Let's just see. I'm glad the torps worked at least with one of them. Dealing with seven is one eighth easier than dealing with eight and my people, and other fighters, need all kinds of stuff that works and makes the war easier."

Pictures of many pages of military history books and articles flashed behind my eyes, in my memories, making me remember several episodes when the military, fighting a war, had lost the support of their people, and soldiers, who returned home, often wounded, after witnessing the atrocities the wars bring, were put into shame and blame.

I don't have the habit, the addiction now, but some algorithms that remained intact in my mind had made me want to do it. So I grabbed both empty tea cans from the floor to dump them into the recycler on my way, went to the 'pilot supplies' locker and took a pack of smokes from there. Then I walked to the side wall console of the cockpit, activated the air vents and lit up a cigarette.

"Seeing other people supporting us would've been great, but, meh. Sometimes it looks like we're isolated in the godsdamned war and many other folks would rather turn tail with their hands up," I said in a more quiet, distant and empty tone after letting the first puff of smoke into the vents. "Local community had lived in the border zone, with the Pleiades right in their windows, for many years and they were attacked often enough to create their own resistance forces, pilots of which have the experience needed to actually fight, not to hold off until help arrives."

"And, regarding the body stuff... Look, I really have nothing to do with that, it's your body and your choice. If you don't bother about proportions and all that being awfully impractical, if you don't need these qualities in the life you're living, which I have no idea of, actually, so I can't give you any more or less detailed answers... Then," I shrugged, "you may go for it and look what kind of changes it may bring. If you wanted my rational advice, then you've gotten it, in the form of 'this is insanity'. Nature created those proportions, perfecting them through a million years, to make our bodies viable and functional, but we surpassed the pace of evolution a few thousand times in our technological progress, and now we, for better or not, can create things nature never meant to introduce into our bodies in the first place."

"You may point at me... But I've remained the same. Just... A little upscaled, after that, to say, medical accident. Everything else is still the same, I didn't have to relearn, to adjust my reflexes and movements."

“It’s not like we started to steal their resources and indiscriminately targeted anything that looked non-human before they also started to target civilians. I’m not saying they were right to do it, but maybe having our people move out there when we were also gonna piss off the space neighbors wasn’t our best idea.”

I shrugged.

“Oh well. Doesn’t change that things are now as they are. But maybe we should still consider trying a different approach than the one that involves a hammer next time. Anyway… what I meant with ‘mad’ is that you get a little too passionate about it as well, and maybe you look at things too simply as a result. I doubt you listen to the superpower propaganda so you’d be willing to look elsewhere, and there’s plenty out there to suggest Thargoids aren’t just mindlessly aggressive to anything nearby. If that doesn’t convince you, then …”

I shrugged again.

“Nothing more to say on that, really. But to get back on that body stuff, I don’t think I’d mind it being somewhat impractical too much. Maybe not right now, with that war going on and whatnot, but when I can just go about my life without all that mess swirling around it… I mean, why not. If I go to out here …”

I pointed to the edge of my shoulders again.

“It shouldn’t need that much adjustment either. Not like I’d completely have to relearn how to walk as a result, not like a certain someone who probably did. And I kinda doubt I’d be the first person to do it either. The only real problem I see then is clothes. Maybe these things …” I tugged at a pant pocket slightly. “… are baggy enough to fit into them after, but the rest… probably not.”
13 Mar 2024, 1:35pm
"Uhhh...", I made a long disappointed exhale, letting a big puff of cigarette smoke out, in the direction of the vents. "Whatever. I presume we're never going to have even somewhat similar points of view on them and this war, and... Fine, I'll take it."

"The last thing I'd like to say is that, as least as it's known from history, the Guardians were attacked without even knowing the Thargoids exist. The latter returned to the planets they deemed 'theirs' because they 'claimed' them, by dropping their stuff onto them and leaving. So once the Guardians arrived, they saw only some fields of those... barnacles, or whatever people call them. And, I guess, it's difficult, just looking at those seemingly inert things, to figure out that they're connected to the angry hordes of space-travelling murderflowers. And, the Guardians tried diplomacy too. With no result."

"So, this is it. If you have something else to say on the topic, I'd listen, but, judging by how it goes, I doubt I'd want to reply," I shrugged, spreading my arms with my palms flattened.

I spent a few moments smoking, noticing that if I don't need the nicotine anymore, I might as well get something with better taste. These were okay, but only just 'okay'.

"...So, if you don't mind those body adjustments being not exactly practical, then, well, why not. I don't see anything so rare and exquisite in your outfit to make changing it a pain in the arse or in the pocket, at least now, but I think you're generally not of that 'high fashion' type."

"If you wanted a kind of encouragement... Well. I dunno. But I won't be stopping you either."
13 Mar 2024, 2:12pm
I made a throwaway hand gesture.

“This war is just a giant clusterfuck where no one knows top and back end anyway. The Titans are just the latest example and I wouldn’t care at all if I didn’t have one sitting on top of my home. So maybe we should just… I don’t know, ignore it. For now. And I’m not too familiar with the Guardian history, just that their war bots ended up wiping them out or something. And that they made ‘em to fight Thargoids, but that’s it. Been over a million years since they fought so some of the details probably got lost, too. Like what was said during those negotiations. And I guess it’d be convenient for the war propaganda to have something that plays right into it, but …”

I shrugged.

“I don’t really think I want to put that kind of tinfoil on my head. That’s for other people to do and figure put. Or prove it. I’m sure you could find what I referred to if you care, but you’re just around to defend people from angry space flowers so I guess to that end, it doesn’t matter. To neither of us, even, maybe. And it’s ultimately the fault of those Azimuth idiots. ‘But it wasn’t our fault!’ Morons.”

I said the one sentence in a completely mocking tone with an appropriate expression, then paused, as if to let it act as a separator between the subjects.

“So, anyway, you’re right about the clothes. I left all of that fancy shit behind with the Empire. Maybe even started like this back there, already. ‘But you have to conform to our high standards! This is not fitting behavior and attire!’ Go suck a Titan’s thermal core. Don’t care about it. I’d rather be me than be a perfect Imperial snob with a stupid accent, pearl white clothes and a dress. Or clothes which are generally way too tight because of course you have to show off to be a ‘good Imperial’ or business partner or whatever.”

I felt tempted to spit on the ground. Being on someone else’s ship, though, I refrained. And I generally didn’t do that much, or at all, anyway. I breathed deeply, then threw a look at… whatever that storage locker was.

“Getting annoyed at those idiots makes me want something to drink. What have you got in there, again?”
13 Mar 2024, 2:34pm
"Phah, at least we both agree on Azimuth being a bunch of nutjobs and imbeciles. Or..."

I finished the cigarette, extinguished it by pressing against the metal plate on the recycler lid, especially placed there by me exactly for this role, but kept the vents spinning to replace the air in the cockpit completely.

"...or some of them may be imbeciles and nutjobs at the same time. And, there," I nodded towards the supplies locker, "I have some canned tea and coffee. Both self-heaters and self-coolers. Lots of it. But, yeah, kind of... Military grade. So the coffee tastes more like brown missile fuel but it works. Though the tea isn't bad. But, neither milk nor sugar. For some reason, I just hate milk. Can't stand that... substance entering my GI tract."

I shook my head as if both for dispersing the images of drinking milk, which was a disgusting process for me, and for getting rid of off-topic thoughts as well.

"And, you know, I tried a dress once. Just once. In my eighteen or something. A simple one and it wasn't even mine, just somewhat close to my... previous size, because hells I'm not going to spend a single credit on that stuff. So, the girls said I looked pretty... 'spicy', and might've been 'posing a threat for them on the parties' and whatever, but, not in a confrontational way of course, phah. But I totally hated the thing."

I chuckled ironically, remembering my own reflection in the mirror that day.

"Those were... Quite an uncomfortable ten minutes. They also said I'd better wear a bra with it too but ugh, don't like those either. So, I got back into my shirt and cargos and was happy to do so. Like... I don't think that my style has changed somehow significantly over the last... Oh, hells, almost twenty years already maybe, phah. So I said... And this pretty much may be a quote, since my way of expressing myself was, I guess, almost the same too those years... I said them "Fuck this shit"."
13 Mar 2024, 2:55pm
“What kinds of tea? Just the black stuff? Not sure it’s really my kind. I’d settle for water too, even if it’s boring.”

I decided to remain seated for now. No point in messing up whatever order existed in the locker without knowing if there was something for me in it.

“Don’t mind milk myself, but yeah, whoever puts that into tea, or came up with the idea, deserves a caustic missile. It just becomes a disgusting substance that looks nothing like tea any longer then.”

“And I honestly don’t get dresses, feels way too exposing. Don’t even get me started on that old-school ‘business clothing’. ‘Oh you’re a woman and work for us? Yeah, you gotta put on this skimpy shit that barely covers your legs’. How about, no thanks, I’ll find somewhere more respectful to work at. Although I guess I mind less for something more closely fitted for the shirt, seems we like similar clothes for the lower half of our bodies.”

“And bras… well.” I looked at her a little more extensively. “I guess you don’t really need one, given the relative proportions. Me, not so lucky, but got used to it. Can’t imagine what size Kas needs, pf.”

"No woman really needs one," I shrugged. "Unless it's something going far off the 'natural normal' like Kas. And whoever designed the dress code shit... It wasn't a personal decision made by someone powerful, more like a social... Blight, to say. And, it lasts for millennia."

"No surprise I hate it," chuckling ironically, I made a stupid grin, like saying quite an obvious thing.

"And, water... I think I have some..."

I went back to the supplies locker and shuffled through countless cans of tea and coffee, and packs of meat jerky, in what looked more like an archaeological excavation.

"Yep... It's like three years old though, phah. But it's sterile and canned too, and way cleaner than internal circulation washing water. I keep it here mostly for medical purposes, like cleaning the wounds because, yeah, it's sterile. So, if you don't mind that kind of water..."

"Also," I turned back to Jana, "Speaking of the Imps. Their 'sanctuary' thing really sucks. I haven't seen the living conditions, but the entire idea of limiting their citizens' freedom in that 'indefinite quarantine' is absolutely heinous. I hope medics on those rescue ships are instructed to let people know the latest news, at least those who look more or less okay and awake enough. Maybe some of them have ditched their Imperial citizenships already."

“I guess that water is fine, if you don’t have like, I don’t know, tea with red fruit. I wouldn’t mind that. Preferably hot but I can do with cold too. But well, if it’s water it’s water, doesn’t really have a taste anyway.”

I observed the commotion inside that locker a little more.

“Looks like a mess to me in there. I thought it’d look a bit more organized. Anyway, bras to me are partly just, well, support. Less than social things. And I guess to me, it makes that part of the body look more ‘interesting’ by hanging less.”

“Anyway, for that ‘protective sanctuary’ thing… that’s just one of those ‘Thargoids are bad and there’s no alternative’ problems. So obviously, everyone that was kidnapped against their will and just kept alive with no obvious signs of getting screwed with, which means they need to be kept in padded cells for the rest of their lives because what if they maybe could be used as sleeper agents? Yet if you followed the logic of Thargoids being dumb, I don’t know how you get to the conclusion of them doing something that devious, just because we as humans totally would.”

“I also don’t know what it’s like over there, not like I know any Imperials any longer. But the news claim they’re being treated as well as can be with news access and all that. Top of the line medical attention, blah blah blah. I’d be annoyed if one of my friends were locked up in there. At least the Alliance let theirs go free again, even if they need to deal with possible consequences later. Only hope this mess with the Titans won’t trigger anything like that with the people they abducted, but… I wouldn’t think so. Why go through this effort to keep them alive just to use them against us in a disposable role?”
