Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Ah," I waved my hand dismissively, "I tried. Every attempt to bring the order to that box was met with vicious g-forces. So I just, you know, stuff everything into a bag tightly and then tie that bag to the wall of the damn locker."

Eventually, I found a can of water. The same bronze-coloured half-litre cylinder with 'AXDF Standard Ration' printed on its side, and only the text below, in a bigger font thankfully, was telling me it's actually water, not tea or coffee.

"Here," I walked to Jana and handed her the can. "Military-grade water, for your fine tastes."

Then, I got back to the place where I sat previously and, obviously, sat on the floor again.

"And forgive me for not willing to reply in detail, since you went into that 'opinion on the Thargoids' place again. I merely stated that a government that limits the freedom of its citizens indefinitely, sucks. Limited time quarantine? Seems logical to me. Post-quarantine monitoring? Understandable. But a cage is a cage, even if it's golden."
13 Mar 2024, 9:16pm
I put aside that can without giving it a further look for now, and put on a rather annoyed expression.

“Sorry, but you’re expecting for nothing to be said about the why they are still stuck in a quarantine or whatever, and I don’t think that’s ok, just because it has “Thargoid” in it. It’s damn paranoia which isn’t even justified, and you know it.”

I sighed.

“Whatever. If you’re just going to put up a big “No” wall and paint a finger on it, you might as well just avoid anything even barely related to the Thargoids entirely, or you’re just going to make me want to walk out without a word. Because talking to a wall isn’t fun, especially when I just used the example to point out the hypocrisy. Or whatever that word is again.”

I expected that statement to not come on too well, but I felt the need to be blunt, and I hadn’t hidden the fact that I was perfectly willing to put things out exactly as I felt about them, rather than soften them up with roses, if it seemed appropriate. Whether that was a personality trait which my host appreciated, I’d quickly find out. My look had, accordingly, also gone from ‘annoyed’ to ‘awaiting the answer’ more.
13 Mar 2024, 10:08pm
"Hm. Yep, it's about the Thargoids too, but I said it mostly regarding the Empire. And, yeah, their hypocrisy," and the following words were said as another 'comment to nobody', "...which, as far as I understand, is well known to the Feds and Allies as well, just, maybe, taking different forms."

"Like, excuse me," I talked to Jana again, "but you did call me being mad at them, and now you turned to the same topic yourself, when there was nothing said about the Thargoids and the war at all at that moment," I spread my arms ironically.

"Sorry but I may have understood that 'no alternative' part wrong, thinking it's 'no alternative to them being bad', whilst it could've also meant 'no alternative to putting people in that stupid quarantine forever'. Although, I don't want to talk about the war for other reasons."

I sighed and started through the cockpit glass once more. How many things I saw looking through that glass?

"I saw too many good people die in that damn war," I sounded distant and empty. "Protecting those who, at first, didn't even know the Thargoids aren't a popular network show. Or those who lived and worked in hazardous areas because they had no other place to live. I, myself, nearly died in the war. Twice, if you count the latter episode, related to our beloved Azimuth. First, I had to deal with arseholes who smuggled meta-alloys, trying to lure the Thargoids, to make them overrun the place faster. Now, I see another wave of that crap, we shouldn't burn the Titans, we shouldn't fight, we should withdraw and surrender and all that bullshit, while people are still dying by the thousands every minute."

"When visiting Kas on Duamta, I myself almost turned around and walked away because of the same thing, but she stopped me and we were able to talk that out. But Kas and I have known each other for a while, and we talked about more serious personal stuff before. I don't want a conflict with you, knowing you're her friend too, but our points of view are still too far from each other, even if closer than Kas's and mine, in comparison."

Feeling that it was more than enough, I turned my head back to Jana, waiting for any kind of response.
13 Mar 2024, 10:26pm
I titled my head to the right in confusion, licking something from that wall of information. Or whatever it could be called.

“Just who in their right mind is saying we should surrender and just leave them with what they’ve taken already in the Bubble? I doubt they’d just stop if we couldn’t talk to them about it. But well, I think we went over that and what I think about just bashing them in the head as we are now, already. So no point in going over it again.”

I flexed my shoulders a little, then picked up that can of water and emptied a bunch of it into me. Maybe a quarter.

“Much better. So… yeah, I wasn’t really saying… well, what I meant with that abducted thing is, the Imps are keeping the abducted isolated permanently - no idea where the Feds are between Winters with constant election delays, and that idiot Hudson - because they’re paranoid about some devious Thargoid plot, but they don’t realize it’s hypocritical because most still don’t believe the Thargoids are that clever. So yeah, I was just using it to point out why I think this ‘protective sanctuary’ or whatever flowery wording they told PR to use is a whole lot of bullshit. Not so much to do with Thargoids themselves.”

“And I wouldn’t care about how we got the Titans out of our space if we didn’t rush to the most brutal way of outright killing them, but you know that already too. So …”

I shrugged, kind of not knowing how to continue from there. It was a bit of a tiring subject, too.

“Maybe I’d prefer not having that kind of wreck sitting in the backyard. Especially if it decides to turn on again at some point in the future. But anyway…”

“I’d throw in some kind of senseless small talk about the weather here, but I’ve never been too good at it. Even if I’m not a hermit that doesn’t like to see the sun. Or other people. And what I’d like to do with that whole war …”

I made a paper crumpling and ‘tossing toward a bin’ gesture.

“It’s a shame I don’t get to tell the universe to do that. Instead we’re stuck here and it keeps crawling in like a backstabbing snake.”
14 Mar 2024, 1:13am
"Yeah, this, about the rescued abductees. It seems like I really didn't understand it correctly, so, sorry. And I think there's no Thargoid plot... Smart or not, they're just hitting us with the force they see appropriate. But we don't know where's the maximum of that force. Maybe the Titans are the best they have. Maybe not. We've no idea, literally."

"So, yeah... We're hitting them back with everything we can, and really not in a position to choose. Those folks," I nodded at, and at the same time pointed my thumb to, the direction of the landing pads, "they're happy to get the first thing that works, because, a) we don't know how long it could work, b) every day every one of us is at risk of not returning here from a battle."

"And, the wrecks... Eggheads tell there's... Something. Something that might either give us a new way to fight them, or a direction of some kind, or... Anything else. Literally. I've no idea, but nobody has any idea at the moment, only the speculations. I guess they aren't out there forever. Either they burn out and dissipate completely, or they cool down to the safe level so we could, you know... Explode them again and let the pieces burn on the reentry, on some ammonia worthless planet. Or toss them out somewhere, landing onto some really thick high-G giant world so that wouldn't make any global difference."

"The weather, phah," I chuckled in a tired-ironical kind of way, "is okay here. At least something that's okay. The recent downpour was an exception, second in like almost a standard year. And, local years are like twice in length but they also say it shouldn't be lower than plus five... Celsius, of course. But most people don't want to stay here for so long, you know."
14 Mar 2024, 1:34am
“And how hot does it get here? I’ve seen that planet where they decided to put the Aegis headquarters. I guess, you, too. Even though they did the sensible thing of not planting that facility right in the middle of that giant desert along the equator… and I guess its border regions… it still felt like I started to sweat a few minutes after I left my ship. Maybe even seconds.”

I looked down at my attire.

“Well, I guess those clothes didn’t help with their absorbing heat. Light, rather, but you get it. And it seems like it’s always summer over there, with no tilt worth speaking of to that planet. … not even going to touch the subject of fifty hour days.”

I took another less-than-small sip from the can of water. Had just about as little taste as I expected from something sterilized. Not that it was a bad thing.

“So, yeah, I guess we could blow up the wrecks again, but I’m sure you’ve seen that talk about people wanting to salvage the remains for research, tech development, whatever. The first thing we’ll do with it before the stuff that improves our everyday lives is weapons, of course. Probably, at least, even if we weren’t still fighting the Thargoids… kinda doubt they’re just gonna let us poke around freely there, though.”

A silly thought occurred to me.

“You know, I’d pay to see them tow their wrecked Titans out of here. Maybe with some popcorn. It’d be entertainment and then easier to ignore those weird spires they decided to plant into systems randomly. Plus we wouldn’t have to clean up more of Azimuth’s mess, by needing to figure out if we should just leave those things orbiting their ammonia worlds for however long it’d take them to fall, or not. If they ever did without some nudges. Sure would take a lot of rocket boosters or, whatever their current equivalent is, to move something that big.”

’In the hopes that it is actually dead.’, I added in my thoughts, not quite able to prevent an expression, reflecting that somewhat grim thought, from appearing on my face.
14 Mar 2024, 2:31am
"That Aegis HQ planet, yeah... Fifty hours long days and hot as Ti... Khm," I corrected myself, "...insert an inappropriate joke about torpedoed Titans and a certain change in their biological processes seen from a human, and, moreover, human vulgar view."

"This place, though...", I made an encompassing gesture with my arms spread and turning my body slightly left to right. "Well. It has four-something degrees of axis tilt and almost a circular orbit so the seasons are almost non-existent here. But, yeah, we're here for less than a local year, so, only the theoretical data, but I've seen nothing to prove it wrong so far."

"And, phah... Towing the Thargoids, phah. You, kind of, a little late for the simplified version," a sudden funny memory appeared in my mind. "When we were stationed in the old town, there was an... Initiative, to remove the wrecked Thargoids that were literally all around the place because ow those folks know how to kick some arse too. And, generally, to make the place cleaner. So, we strapped them to T-10s and Anacondas, lifted them above the atmosphere and let go, for the combat pilots to shatter them with guns and let the pieces burn on reentry. We had live feed from our ship cams, some local folks on the transports and even the commentator like it was a kind of sport."

The whole story was generously complemented by gesturing, like, showing that the Thargoid wrecks were all around by making a wide arc, then tying a knot on a 'strapping them to ships' phase, balling hands into fists and forcefully releasing, showing sparks and shattered pieces when I told about shooting them, and 'even the commentator' was followed by a finger pointed up into air like it was something really rare, though, maybe it was. And I, probably, smiled stupidly all the time since it was too funny to retell with a straight boring face.

"Yep... That was funny. Even if a little macabre and cynical for the modern day audience as I see it."

"And the Titan wreck... I dunno what they could find there. Maybe something really interesting for the scientists. And the rest really expensive for the scavengers to pick the thing clean in a few weeks. Should be something new at least."
14 Mar 2024, 2:56am
“Yeaaaah… that’s definitely not my kind of humor. And if we wanted to tow a Titan anywhere we’d probably have to strap a few capital ships to it. And find some kind of nearly indestructible cable. If we’re being realistic, unless the Thargoids move them away, I’m not sure they’re going to go anywhere.”

I shrugged.

“I guess that only matters for after they’re dealt with. Or the Thargoids stop being so angry, but I can kind of guess which one of those two is gonna happen first. I’d be surprised if Aegis found too much left other than salvage to build fancy stuff from, because the Titan’s internals will have gotten thoroughly roasted, and it’ll have been messed up even more by that explosion. Still wonder why it would’ve kicked everyone out though. I mean, why not take the humans around out with it?”

Wasn’t sure if I’d get an answer to that, but I was curious to hear someone else’s opinion on the subject. It definitely wasn’t something my brain could wrap itself around, having watched footage of the event. Was hard to miss it.

“Be too much to hope there’d be a magic Thargoid translation device in there, would it. Something we could figure out their language with, so maybe it’d be easier to figure out what they want. Or just if they’re planning to throw more Titans at us or something.”

“Well, not magic, but you get the idea. Be really useful even if they’re not bothered to talk. Which I’m guessing they’re not.”
14 Mar 2024, 4:34am
"Maybe something could remain more or less intact, at least some... Materials. Maybe those Titans have some kind of a self-destruct algorithm, to keep their secrets, who knows," I shrugged. "Though, I'm still applying our human ways of warfare, like, hitting a self-destruct on a cool piece of machinery if you feel it's a bit too much going on, to prevent capturing and reverse-engineering. Inertia of thoughts, I guess."

"Any kind of translator would be cool but I think it's... The least possible option actually, phah. I don't see them being interested in communications at all. But maybe a piece of tech, or, an organ, since we're speaking of Thargoids... That allows some kind of 'connection' to their hivemind or its cluster or whatever. Like a comm station but in a Thargoid way."

And, I tried to compact whatever I knew about that new shockwave field or whatever is surrounding the remnants of the Taranis now, into a coherent reply, and it was actually difficult since I haven't been there personally since the meltdown, and everything I knew came from different sources, oftenly opposing each other.

"Maybe that's, kind of, a malfunctioned version of its repulsor wave. That it wasn't able to control being in terminal state. I don't know much, really, haven't been there since the meltdown. We moved out as soon as it was confirmed that the Taranis had gone past the point of no return, no need to linger there for any longer. Yeah, rescue ships remained there for a little more time, but I was in the strike group."

"And, you know, stuff change. What was happening there yesterday may not be true for today. There are still some chemical and thermal processes going on, they affect the surrounding area and I'm definitely not a scientist to explain what's happening and why."
14 Mar 2024, 4:49am
“Well, if that thing had a self-destruct mechanism, it didn’t need it. We basically improvised it ourselves by overheating it enough to where the fusion reactor containment failed to keep the reaction, well, contained, and it turned into a very big nuke. Or at least I guess that’s what happened there in the end.”

I shrugged.

“I’ve only looked at other people’s footage following what happened when the core went to become a small star for a few seconds, and after that. It doesn’t seem to fire any kind of repulsion waves now… not really surprising. There was just the one moments before it blew up. The cloud, I dunno. Seems like a bigger version of the one from interceptors when they blow up. Well, if they blow up. A lot bigger. And it kinda used to spin around before too so maybe the explosion and adding more to it kinda sped that up, and now that rotating slows down the thing going away so we can look around in there.”

“Not really a science person either. Don’t even know why those ships leave behind that corrosive death cloud. Easier to figure out the thing glowing at the center, that’s probably just the remains being really hot. And what I found says it seems to make sense that it still is. Like the way those dead dwarf stars, you know, the ones with that stupidly big exclusion zone, take absolute ages to completely cool down after the star itself goes and only the core is left. Heat doesn’t seem to go anywhere quickly in vacuum, surprisingly.”

I took a breath.

“I guess it might not be risking to melt your ship once the death cloud goes away, though. Hopefully. Would be pretty difficult to look around in there if it’s like sitting too close to a star. And name me a pilot who hasn’t done that once by accident, or because they walked away for a, uhm, bathroom break without ensuring the heat level was steady while grabbing fuel.”
14 Mar 2024, 11:37pm
"Phahah," I laughed sarcastically, "You can't imagine how many distress signals come from ships with cruise assists installed. And I really doubt they 'try not to use them'", air quotes and a bitterly ironic tone here, "in infested areas."

"Imagine sitting on a shitter with cruise assist on and then the Thargoids interdict you and everything's spinning. Poor idiots, phah."

"And the Thargoids and their corrosive clouds...", I rubbed my nose bridge, thinking, "...I guess that's what they're made of. Some chemical component in their bodies... hulls... whatever. Like, you know, those insects and lizards covered in something nasty to repel the predators. Maybe they evolved that mechanism too, who knows. Like, those greenish, brownish, whatever, clouds, stains, that stench, it's impossible to make a mistake."

"Like, we had to triple the air ventilation and filtering on our carriers, because your head starts to throb and fall apart when there's some heavy action going on and ships come covered in that goop. Otherwise, a day in that shit and you start to throw up. Yuck," I scowled.

A sudden communicator notification interrupted my thoughts. Thankfully? Maybe. But it wasn't a private message or whatever. I pulled the thing out of the pocket and looked at the screen.

"Hey, look at this shit. They confirmed that the Taranis remnants are... Well, relatively safe to visit now. Definitely not an instant death. Speak of the devil, I'd say. And there's a photo from the inside. So, that means, someone took that pic and was able to transmit it."
14 Mar 2024, 11:51pm
I decided to hop off the co-pilot’s seat to come over and take a look… after taking another sip or few of water.

“Well, uh. I guess… that thing is probably not getting used by Thargoids anytime soon. Kind of surprised that there’s anything left at all. I mean, you’ve probably seen the explosion that got set off on the newsfeeds.”

I shrugged.

“Wasn’t planning to go poke a dead Titan, but I guess I could take a look and see what’s around there. I bet the area’s going to be swarming soon. With scavengers, that is. Probably better to go in while it’s quiet and get what you can out of there for Aegis and their research, before the Thargoids get mad at us fumbling around there. Like I said - don’t expect ‘em to just let us borrow their stuff.”

I looked at the picture a little more closely. Visibility looked bad, but it was clear enough to see stuff. Two larger sections of Titan remained relatively intact, albeit split apart, and the entire core, or middle section of it, was basically just gone. A few - relatively speaking - medium size parts also still floated around.

“Yeah, that was one hell of an explosion tearing that thing apart. Most of it’s been turned into pieces of scrap barely large enough to even care about. And look …”

I pointed along the direction where the debris appeared to be scattered, thinning out the further it got.

“Looks like something must’ve blown a piece of the Titan out before it really went. So the explosion took that way out. Lucky for us I guess, means there’s more to recover. Still a shame we had to kill it though. And hey, weren’t people planning to go and smack that other Titan? What’s the name… Leigong?”

“I also don’t think I ever breathed in whatever those caustic fumes are. Can’t say I complain about it. There’s probably ammonia in there and I’m told that stuff stinks. Isn’t healthy to breathe in either, I’d bet.”
15 Mar 2024, 12:53am
"Ah," holding the communicator with the message displayed on its screen, I waved my other hand dismissively. "Thargoids could easily find any reason to get angry... at us, at least. So, one more, one less. Yet, if you're heading there, I can't tell who might be your worst enemy, bugs or scavengers. Some people are... to say... Extra greedy."

"And yeah," I nodded, "we're totally going to bomb Leigong too. And I hope I'd be in the lead of our group, not like a separate unit of my own. Like, other groups are participating in weakening its defences now, whilst we need some simple rest after the Taranis. Going two days with eighteen hours long shifts is, kinda, tiring, you know."

"And I've been around there all the time," a comment sounded in a little more quiet tone. "Kas is going to absolutely hate me, but uh. Okay. Such is life, I guess."
15 Mar 2024, 1:12am
“Not running into trouble is why I’d rather go there quickly. Thargoids are a bit blind so you can hide from ‘em more easily. But I’ll have to see who wants this stuff from there, because… I’m not seeing any official announcements about going over there to gather stuff, yet. Dunno. Maybe I’ll hand it over to that guy Palin with his Thargoid workshop that probably reeks of ammonia. Or to the rescue ships so it gets handed to Aegis. Rather not see Azimuth get their hands on too much of this. God knows what kinda idiocy they’d build out of it.”

I shook my head, facepalming.

“Why is it always something stupid with them? Can’t even assume they’ll do actual tech development to advance civilian tech or something proper to help us deal with the Titans. Have to ask myself what they’ve been doing the last year and a half, because most of it doesn’t fall into ‘being useful’.”

“But anyway. I think she’ll come around from it eventually. I know that thing with those emotions too well. You get really pissed at something first and don’t really think too straight around it, then you control those impulses a bit better when the feelings go down a bit. At least, sometimes. Can’t say being away from Imperials for a decade has made me hate them less.”

I lowered my voice a little, as though to speak to myself.

“Has it really been a decade already? Good thing we live longer nowadays, too.”
15 Mar 2024, 2:52am
"Those folks go wherever they want without official announcements. That's, kind of... A gamble, you know," I shrugged. Jana had read the message already so I switched the communicator screen off and put the thing back into my trousers side pocket. "Either you're first and the most yummy stuff is yours, or, well, shit happens. No better luck next time since there's no next time, you get it."

"I won't be surprised knowing there are already some ship debris around, melted in whatever stuff surrounded the wreckage before."

Letting out a long sigh, I stared at the pilot seat. My main workplace, to say.

"She may get over it. She may not. There's only one thing I know for sure: I'll take any option. If looking at me turns into war memories trigger for her, she'd better not see me any more again. Some stuff is too deep to simply forget it and move on."
