Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Your theological and mythological old Earth knowledge is seriously lacking if you think those places are one in the same, but I understand your meaning" said Lambast unable to let a poor education pass unremarked, but still trying to be cordial as she and Kaisla were very much out gunned right now.

"May I ask what Lord Goodness had done to incur the ire of your enigmatic master? May haps I could find a way to placate, or compensate them for the Lords digression"

Kai poked her nose up from behind her menu and turned her head to her sister wearing a 'really' face.

"Ire? Enigmatic? May haps? Chill out Lamb, you're not talking to mom. Jeez" Raising her hand in the air and snapping her fingers at the man standing closest to her, Kai shouted "GARSON! I want everything on that page" demanded Kaisla "and an ice cream" she added in a sweet child-like voce.

The man took the menu without knowing why, and started towards the bar before wondering why the fuck he was taking orders for a woman in an old pilots jacket at least two sizes too big for her.

Kaisla noticed Lambast was glaring at her again. That wasn't uncommon, her sister glared at almost everything as if it had personally insulted her, but this glair meant something. It clicked.

"Oh, Garson? Please, and thank you" paired with a smile and fluttering eyelashes, Kaisla felt she had for filled Lambasts unspoken quest.

Folding her arms on the table and leaning over them to get closer to the retreating Vodan, Kai finally focused on why she had come here with Lambast.

"So yeah, what's with this Creamy guy, ffft what a name. Where is he? Spill" said Kai, the bad cop.

"It was the... Upper part," I looked down at my own chest in a form of explanation. "And also I followed each attempt with a 'boop' sound. Like that: boop boop boop", and I made three poking movements in the air again.

"...Imagine waking up and realising you've been subjected to that kind of testing. Maybe being angry at me wasn't such an irrational reaction after all, phah."

"But, yeah. I may actually understand you here...", my voice slowed down as I went into my memories again. "Having a friend with a body that you'd like to... Interact with, in a way that friends don't usually do..."

"Maybe I'm lucky. Mion... Yeah, that's her name. Though, she isn't Japanese. But that's another story... So... Back then, I was, like... You know, looking at her and 'yeah, she's cool', but, hey. I'm a mess and I had too much stuff going on those days and all that... So, yep, I kept doing my stuff until one day she told me that she's been thinking the same way about me all the time. Ah, love the irony."

"Maybe you saw her, or at least heard on the comms. That rescue operation, Silver 1-1. That was her, phah."

I shook my head, after scratching it for a few seconds.

"No, can't say I remember. I didn't really leave my ship during that whole thing, and mostly, I was really just busy trying not to lose track of everything around me. Fighting Thargoids around an attacked station is one thing, and I can handle that. But around a Titan? Way worse. I watched back some of the footage of people attacking Taranis and hell, that got chaotic in the last few hours of the fighting. Doubt it's gonna be any better for the others, either, meaning... I'm gonna be staying away from that for that reason as well."

"So, yeah, I mostly just listened to the boss when we rescued Kas. Which, in that case, was you."

I stretched out my arm in her direction.

"Probably the only voice I really remember from around then. Or, at least, the only one that I can actively remember, right now."

"But anyway, I'm sure that 'poking' incident on your end was a lot of fun. In the wrong way, maybe. Doubt she'll hold it personally, though, considering she pretty quickly forgave me. Then again... maybe it was a little easier because I picked the least sensitive of those interesting spots."

I pulled the left corner of my mouth up and pinched the same eye closed slightly, looking off to the right.

"But what can I say, it was the most interesting in the moment. Or generally, maybe."

"Hm, you paid for an audience, not answers. I came because you" said Vodan pointing at Kaisla "are a good smuggler and sweet pilot"

Now looking at Lambast, Vodan continued "And had I known you had a, what? Foster sister? I mean, she's clearly an Imp-snob to the bone no matter how she's dressed"

He couldn't help wonder how someone like Kaisla, obviously a federal citizen, law-abiding when it suited her, could be related to a woman that looked like she was used as the mold for sticks up the ass. It was a question for another time.

"If I'd known you were somehow related to landed money in Imp-space, we'ed be friends Kai, not business associates"

"But we're not friends, are we? So right now you two are about here" said Vodan hovering his hand low over the table as Kaisla's order arrived. It was mostly drinks.

"That's go fuck your selves level. But that is much better than this" he said slapping the table-top "Coz that's go fuck your selves, and now we'll kill you, so there is space to negotiate with me. Id'nt dat nice?"

Vodan reached over and took one of the glasses Kaisla had ordered, smiling at the women as he did so. Sitting back again and taking a sip of his drink, Vodan laid out his proposal.

"As it happens, I'm about to come into possession of a letter of marque, and I'm going to need someone in the imperial court to sponsor my claim to it. If that goes well, I could see my way clear to getting you two safe passes to Arcadia. Maybe there, you'll find out what happened to Creamy"

"Wodder'ya say Lambast?"
05 Apr 2024, 2:58pm
Vodan was the king in his castle with no reason to be magnanimous at this moment, but he was still no more than a raider. People like him lived to take what didn't belong to them. As long as he was greedy, Lambast had a good change of feeding his hunger, just not with courtly influence.

"Letters of marque are almost never drafted, a relic of the Marlinist empire, part of history now. If you are to happen upon one, stained sanguineus or not, and become its bearer, blood will be your reward for the rest of your days" warned Lambast.

The warning was going to fall on deaf ears she had no doubt, but a relic of a distant age needed respect.

"I would gladly hasten your path to ruin, but unfortunately, it is my own lack of influence within even my local politics that has sent me hunting for delinquent children"

Tracking down the children of disappointed parents had become Lambast's quest since the Goodness family blocked her proposal for building a star-port on Cubeo Three.

First Count Goodness had forced Lambast to find his son, or he would personally block all her plans to develop the lands bordering his. That was the first delinquent she hunted. After a trail of dead ends, Lambast decided to ask her friend Maul for help. Every one left a trail on computers, so Maul was a priceless blood hound, but he too was missing. A second delinquent refusing to step into the light.

Last was Kaisla. Not exactly delinquent or a dissapointment to mum and dad, but Kaisla could do better if she wanted. It had still taken Lambast weeks to find her own sister in the mess of a galaxy beset by Thargoids. Months spent searching, and still no closer to finding Lord Goodness.

"If it is a favorable hand within the empire you require, you need someone like Lord Goodness. He has many friends in high places"

"Yeah..." My stare wandered around, skimming over the cockpit interior, the pilot seat and the main console, and finally set on the canopy, unfocused, turned up to the sky but not looking at it. "As I remember now... That was a bit of a mess. Spontaneous mess. And, well, I might've been the boss during the flight but it was Mion who convinced the local authorities that I shouldn't go alone, or with a couple of AXDF wings only. So we had eight more combat ships thanks to her."

"And she also timely stopped me when I wanted to go alone, phah."

"...So I can't really stop thinking of you and Kas finally, well... Stepping over that 'friendship' line too."

Making that last sentence sound a little inciting, with a smirk on my face, I looked at Jana and clasped my hands, showing two entities connecting together.

"So, no no no, don't get me wrong... I'm not pushing you towards it or whatever. But your interest seems almost unconcealable... And you don't look like you even think of concealing it. And, hey, there's nothing bad in asking, and something tells me she will understand you perfectly."
05 Apr 2024, 6:47pm
I shrugged in a slightly awkward way.

"Well, yeah... wasn't thinking of hiding it. I guessed you'd kinda caught on I was interested even before we met in person, cause, you know, me and her, we sorta think along the same lines. At least, where that thing is concerned. But I'm not so sure about telling her."

I spent a second or two thinking.

"Maybe because she's just got enough of her own to worry about, but I'm also not sure I feel those same 'signs' coming from her side. Even if she gets that thing with the body ..."

Stopping the sentence short there, I focused on another part of what'd been said.

"I wasn't really thinking... you were trying to push in that direction. But I might not be that confident about approaching someone else. Not something I've made any experience with. Maybe I was just too weird for everyone around me to try. As in, for someone else to. I wasn't... really focused on finding anyone, though I'd lie if I hadn't felt something in here, in the past."

I moved my left hand over the spot on the chest where the heart was. Or, at least, as close as it could be without touching anything that was not to be touched in this moment.

"...and I understand and agree with you." I replied in a straightforward statement-like tone and nodded. "Nowadays... May not be the best time for anything like that."

"But, in the future... Foreseeable future even, maybe... Who knows."

"And, here...", I slowly put my hand on my chest too. A place where people normally should have their hearts. "I can't... You know... Uh... I..."

There are some thoughts that actually look and sound better while they're still in your head, but letting them out, vocalising them, might be a challenge, as you try to find the best word for every little piece of that thought, and that takes some time and effort. Not to mention composing those words into a coherent reply. Sometimes you feel that no matter how rich your vocabulary is, known human languages simply lack the words necessary to convey your thoughts with the precision you want, without losing anything in translation into a spoken form. So, after a brief moment of pausing and stuttering, I stopped to think, for a few seconds, my vision turned inwards.

"You know... I can't really say I feel stuff... Can't even remember the last time it happened. Looks like it was... Decades ago. But I'm okay with it. We," making an emphasis on the word 'We', I hoped that it would become obvious that Mion and I had a discussion about it and we both reached the position of agreement and understanding, so things that I've been talking about now weren't only my separate point of view. "...are okay with it."

Making a deep breath, I continued.

"Emotions, feelings, they make people do stuff. Make decisions. Some of them are impulses, some of them may be more... Conscious. And, attraction, affection, all those romantic elements... They are amongst the strongest ones. But when that... To say, machine, stops and breaks down, it's like... Slowly switching you to black and white, losing colours. So, you have to come up with your own ones."

"Otherwise this life would quickly lose any taste...", I ended the thought with a tired, distant voice.

"So. I keep things in mind, constantly," I noticed that I'd forgotten my hand on my chest and moved it upwards, placing it on the side of my head. "I have to. That means, I'm not a cold and unfeeling robot. Maybe. Perhaps. And, before doing anything, I have to prioritise, have to build a logical chain, like... What impact might it have on her? How may it look from her side? And so on. That means... I constantly have her on my mind. Even if... Well... I have nothing there."

"Uhhhhh...", making a long-drawn exhale, I relaxed my shoulders and looked through the canopy, at the sky. "Sorry. I don't know why I told you all this, all of a sudden, phah. Call it a glitch in the system."
05 Apr 2024, 9:07pm
"Yeah, that was... a little deep for a simple talk. Unless this suddenly turned into some kind of therapy session where I'm listening to your deep stuff?"

I put on a bit of a face to try making it more obvious I was joking.

"And come on, you can't be that bad. I mean, you've got enough in there - " I pointed at her head. " - to care about a friend to the point of jumping into hell to rescue her without a second thought, even alone. Or the practical equivalent of hell, anyway. Can't imagine anything better for it than that caustic death field and the Titan inside. Right now, that is."

An unspoken implication of 'If the Thargoids don't send worse' was hidden in there.

"Anyway, I guess that stuff sometimes just... comes out. Things that are deep inside and maybe bother you a little, even when you think you've moved on. Can't say I don't sometimes see the shit I've been through in my sleep, or... well, get it coming out during a talk. Not that I like to unless it's someone I know, but... I guess, that's just a, normal human thing. Whether you can believe there's anything normal about me or not."

"And, uh, yeah... with all that funny and shitty life stuff. Uh. Forgot where I was going with that. So, yeah, I'm just gonna hold on to anything I might feel for, you know, her. Would like to think I'd still be there even if she didn't have totally oversized curves. Those just... make the deal even better, you know? If I end up getting it. Which, still... at least a few months off, I think. To let that whole Thargoid shit blow over and fade into memories. Not just for her."
05 Apr 2024, 9:31pm
Timeline: 04 March 3310, shortly after the destruction of the Taranis

"Phah, no worries," I made a slight and light-hearted hand wave. "Just, kind of... My old thing. If you want to tell someone it's okay to talk openly with you, it's up to you to make that first step. Since actions are stronger than words, even if they're... Phah, about words, essentially."

"And, yeah, yeah," nodding several times, I turned my head back to Jana. "That's what I meant by saying 'letting things move at a natural pace'. If you think it's not the time yet, then don't force it."

"We have a real hell on our hands now. If we survive, and I hope we do, it will certainly go down in our memories as something of the 'before and after' kind of shit. Maybe even... Realising that the hell is over could make her more... Open for opportunities, to say."

"You know, like... Finally feeling fresh air after years of smoke and rust. You want more of it, and you breathe hard until you go dizzy."
05 Apr 2024, 11:39pm
"Yeah, I... definitely know."

Speaking a little more slowly, thoughtfully almost, because of those memories.

"Felt it the first time when I got out of the Federation's shithole to, well, actually being myself. No parents, no bullshit social standards of either Feds or Imperials to get in the way of whatever life I wanted to build myself."

"Didn't last as long as I wanted it to, thanks to idiots pissing off an alien species needlessly, but... at least I had it. And I'm hoping it just comes back to me, once this nonsense clears up. Nobody with two brain cells to put together 'enjoys' war, and the senseless killing that it causes. Hell, it's even more shit when it stops you from going through with plans you'd like to, if that is ones you came up with during, or before it."

"I didn't really have any 'deeper' ones, just... seeing where life was taking me. Doing what I liked. I did get a bit of a liking to flying ships even though I only really signed up for the license to get more control over everything that I could. In regards to my own life, that is. But if I could be with her... yeah, yeah, I'd like that. A lot."

I said those last few words a little more quietly.

"If not, friends is still fine. And it might make it a little more funny to poke her. Something tells me she'd be quite easy to tease about it."

"Yep," I nodded shortly in response. "Only the most insane freaks enjoy war."

"Like, you know... I do enjoy a good battle sometimes. Charging forward, guns blazing, kicking arse, and them getting absolutely annihilated. Or mounting a defence, perfectly planned, like, come get some you shits, and seeing waves upon waves of those fuckers getting deleted. But, the war... Ruined cities, dead and injured civilians, ships sardined with refugees, rubble, mud, corpses, smoke everywhere... That's, you know..."

All my thoughts on it were perfectly given away by the long exhale I made, but I finished that line with words nonetheless.

"Maybe that's why we need a good battle. To hit fast and hard and let whoever our enemy is know that we shouldn't be messed with. Or else. To prevent wars. Peace through superior firepower, or what was it called..."

"At least there's hope now, hope to end it, in the foreseeable future. And get to building and rebuilding. And...", I smiled and stretched my right arm towards the canopy, like, pointing to the landing pads and the camp outside. "...figuring out where it might bring us. Having no angry aliens floating around is, you know, good for improving your life."
06 Apr 2024, 11:16pm
"If by foreseeable future you mean months, to dig out those more entrenched Titans... then yeah, I guess. Me, I mostly just care about seeing Oya gone. Maybe Raijin once it is done, because that's the next closest Titan after Leigong. And, well, I don't fancy the chances of that second one."

I sighed, lowering my head for a moment.

"You know, maybe I'm not optimistic enough about it, but I'm not really convinced this is going to make the Thargoids back off. Then again... I guess I should just wait to see how it all goes down. Pretty sure we'll at least send three of them to whatever the Thargoid maker is, though. Anyway ..."

"It'll be good enough for my immediate future, for the Titan sitting on it to be gone. Sorta wish it didn't, or I guess wouldn't, take reducing it to a pile of dead rubble to do that, but you're probably just going to tell me 'That's war'. And I don't really have a point to argue back with against that. So ..."

I shrugged.

"Maybe just leave that where it stands. And you bet I can give the Thargoids a good fight... with some backup. Though, I think, getting those fancy Guardian weapons wasn't a terrible choice. They compensate for my very average flying enough that I can fight a Medusa without risking to get shot to pieces every few seconds. Or without a ton of backup."

"But that's just... locally. And pushing them out of a system repeatedly doesn't seem to make them get the hint. Hell, you'd think they would've already gotten it after one Titan. Or, soon to be two, I guess. But, they're still here. Not really showing any signs of being interested in leaving, either."

"Whatever way it goes, hopefully Kas won't end up being too mad about it." I put on a bit of an awkward look and touched finger tips. "You know, wouldn't want this stupid idiocy to ruin my chances. Or the chances of anything, between us."
07 Apr 2024, 3:30pm
Timeline: 04 March 3310, shortly after the destruction of the Taranis

"The more I do all... that," I nodded towards the landing pads, "the more I realise how different we are. I mean, humans and Thargoids. Sometimes it looks like they're simply... Endless. And they can afford losses that we, humans, can't."

"See..."

Staring through the canopy glass at the sky, I began unravelling my thoughts, which weren't that messy and complicated, actually, but they still had a lot of factors and variables to consider.

"We, humans... We have those emotional connections to each other. Friends, relatives, family... A blessing and a curse. Nobody fights more fiercely and mercilessly than one touched by grief and tragedy, and I have... Dozens of people like that under my command. While still hoping, even if it isn't actually realistic, that no one else would have to experience what they've gone through."

"And, Thargoids... They can afford losses. They act like every one of them is expendable. We can't fight like that. I can't just send those pilots in a meat grinder knowing they're all going to die there, even for a great cause. My superiors know that too, we need them alive, they need me alive, to keep fighting."

"Bugs are friggin endless. Okay... We're at our peak at the moment, I guess. Almost every one of my folks can solo a Medusa, more than a third can drop a Hydra. Lesser variants... We simply delete them off the sky. But they keep coming. And they keep targeting civilians, defenceless people, they keep bringing terror to our people. To our species."

"'Stay calm and do your job', that's what I tell my pilots, especially new ones. Thargoids might look scary when they attack a station, or a city, full of civilian and poorly trained and shittily armed local defence ships. People start yelling, panicking, running and bumping into each other, all that. When organised and trained forces arrive, bugs are getting folded like an omelette. And... I want those pilots to think they're now part of that force, not the chaotic bunch that's barely able to defend themselves. Even if they're green, they can keep formation and focus on landing hits, instead of panicking and zipping around."

"Uhhhh... But they're still winning that numbers game. It's difficult to play a numbers game against infinity, you know?.. And, also. I say you, Kas is already mad about it. Or maybe because we, she and I, are on the opposite sides now."
07 Apr 2024, 4:15pm
"Yeah ..."

I shrugged.

"I can't say much about that 'numbers' thing. Some guy who's all into military stuff kept telling me, 'They have limits, they can't hold off forever', blah blah blah. I never really got it because for all that it matters, their limits could as well be so high that it looks like infinity to us. Even if it isn't... and it probably is not."

"But, I guess that's a matter for the strategic planners to deal with. And, god knows, I'm not one of those."

I added a bit of a scoffing sound to the end of the sentence to show that it was... very far from my areas of expertise. If I even was better than 'average' at anything.

"You could leave some of the local deciding to me, I guess. If it's just me who has to handle it. But responsibility for other people? Nah, no thanks."

I sighed.

"Yeah, definitely not. My brain's already at max when I'm caught up in lightning and there's something other than a Cyclops shooting at me at the same time. I should probably tell you of that time I was trying to keep one Hydra busy and then the second one decided it didn't like me while my ship was getting zapped."

I raised both hands in a cautious manner.

"Let's just say, I was glad I had those extra armor packages thrown on the ship. Also narrowly avoided getting zapped by the second Hydra. Wasn't a lot of fun."

"Anyway, so, how bad was it really between the two of you that she's really mad at you? Because she seemed fine with me doing that, you know, Thargoid killing thing to defend whatever sorry station they're attacking."
