I will never forget watching my world being swallowed in pure starlight.

I lived on an unnamed backwater in a system controlled by  <REDACTED>

We grew up knowing our Star was different, we all learned in school how this place was a giant experiment.

Construction began years before I was born, and was still well underway when I joined one of the teams who would attempt to draw power from the star. It was the Dyson sphere that set it into its supergiant stage billions of years before it was supposed to. <REDACTED> knew this could or would lead to unpredictable results.

I was one of the first to know, and the last to leave. I watched my homeworld devoured by the star that gave it life.

After almost 7 years of hardships, ordeals and learning to cope I had found a planet I thought was similar to home. Soon after getting situated, I had an issue getting permits and so ended up being forced to change my place for birth due to circumstances was... Odd. At the Records Department I also received a message. My old Lab Chief had died, it was heart breaking as there weren’t many of us from the labs left. I would outlive them all, being only in my mid-30s. In his will he had left the old Diamondback that we had used to leave our doomed world all those years ago.

It took a couple of rotations, but when the ship was finally delivered I had a wave of melancholy wash over me, old memories coming back into my mind. It was in great condition. The computer registered over 10 thousand jumps, the old man apparently didn't sit still. On inspection of the interior I could see the lining on the seat was worn and a bit faded, the windows had a lot of micro-scratches. No issue. After messing about in the cockpit I saw a note was taped to the throttle.

All it said was: “Nice Turn, Real Easy”
