After a series of very unfortunate circumstances where his actions resulted in the complete annihilation of his small faction while he himself was mercifully spared as a show of gratitude during their attempt to expand into a system contested by the Federation, Kit attempted to shoulder the responsibility and join his deceased companions. As per tradition of his prior group, grievous dishonor could be atoned for by flying into the star of his home system, and he set out on this task with all due haste, strapping into his Harris, and returning to Saffron for exactly that purpose.

As fate would have it, a minor systems failure saw to it that he would encounter the ice rings of Saffron 6 instead of the intended target of the star itself. The ship's emergency wake-out systems activated during witchspace and dropped him straight to normal space, rendering Kit unconscious and badly injured, while nearly tearing the ship apart by battering it across several iceroids.
