She'd read a great deal of holofacs left behind on the ship by all the exposures to spacefaring life. Piracy, murder, and other things that the Alliance provided varying levels of protection from seemed intense, scary even- but as time went on, the galaxy changed. So did people. The truth of non-human life that existed, which many in the Alliance believed in; the differences in culture, terrain, and color in sky. It was enough for her to know that regardless of what happened in Gateway, the rest of the galaxy would move on, just like her parents' cartographic efforts had likely proven. With nothing more than the knowledge that exploration was in her blood, she knew what it was she'd have to do.
By the late 3290s, her parents each had died of complications to long term radiation exposure. With a lot of their treatment having spent a majority of their credits, there was little left to Kaz' name, or heritage. With the little that was left, she set off into the black, taking a charter flight to Eravate.
For the following couple of years, she trained for the Pilots' Federation Exam. Barely earning the loaner sidey and partial tuition refund to get started, she hoped to meander into a career of success, instead of retreading the roads and discoveries that are owed up to others. Among her proudest finds to date was in 3303, where she, cdr. Lain Brigands and cdr. Panpiper discovered the first barnacle forest.
In addition, she has also assisted in decoding the first sets of Eagle Eye transmissions from Aegis, and several of the surface sites that were attacked by thargoids- along with Cdr. Annabella Terra.
Kaz continues to search the black for excitement and something to survey.
