Born on the densely populated Mu Horologii B V, known to locals as "Holliday," Ignis Montis is a Praetor of the decommissioned 528th Legion of the Imperial Navy, known currently as "Lavigny's Legion." His intense study of Imperial culture in his academic years uncovered an inherent political passion, which ultimately led to studies in Aerial's Civitas Respublica, an institution for Imperial political education. Serving the Legion initially in the early 3260s as a courier and Praetorian, he quickly rose up to the rank of Vexillarius in 3266 due to his drive to improve Legion logistics. This eventually had him established as a Quaestor for the Office of Civic Operations and Relations in 3276.

In 3301, Montis was escalated to the highest military rank in Lavigny's Legion, holding office within the Praetor Council. While technically a rank of the Legion's Office of Military Incursion, this provided him with oversight of myriad Legion operations, a duty he served in until April 3307.
