Born in the slums of Opila 5 and burdened with extremely bad eyesight Hanako always dreamt of flying across the stars. But for a handicapped orphan it would be impossible to become a pilot as the money needed to pay for fixing her eyesight were far out of reach. Nothing is free in the Federation...

One of the few options to get out of the slums would be enlisting in the Federal Navy, so Hanako went to a recruitment office as soon as she was old enough. There she aced every test except one - the vision test. The navy however only pays for necessary medical procedures of its members, not civilian applicants. Thus back to the slums...

Several months later Hanako got into a vicious bar fight. During it she noticed an older looking gentleman being attacked by several thugs. Hanako managed to save that man and after the excitement had ended he introduced himself as an Imperial noble and officer in their navy! The Imperial was understandably very grateful and impressed by her performance in the fight, so he made Hanako an offer: He would finance the top of the line cybernetic eyes and even offer opportunities to train her skills further, if Hanako would work for him in order to pay back the loan. She signed the service contract without hesitation...

A couple of years in the special operations branch of the Imperial Navy later just as the officer once promised Hanako's debt was paid and she was free to make her own way. And there was even enough left to buy a rundown old Sidewinder...
