Eric, and his wife, Julie, went on a long sightseeing adventure together. They'd hoped that, before their son was born, they could travel the galaxy as husband and wife one last time. For their last trip, the couple had set their course for Bernard's Loop.

Nearing the Witch Head Nebula, his parents had to make an emergency stop in the Rigel system as his mother went into labor. Soran gazed upon his tired mother under the beautiful starlight and the Nebulae beyond. Although the family was meant to reach Bernard's Loop before his birth, Eric decided to turn his Asp Explorer back towards his home world of Nanomam 2 to raise their firstborn.

Because Soran was born in Rigel, an unpopulated star system, Soran technically had no nationality, and a glitch in the Federal record systems never issued a birth certificate to his family. In the eyes of Federal law, Soran was not a citizen of the Federation, and did not receive the same legal and financial benefits as his parents, nor was he allowed to join the Federal Navy once he had reached proper age.

Angry at the world for his misfortune, he spent years saving credits to afford his very first private ship, a hand-me-down Sidewinder. However, Soran was a clever and cunning pilot, and did not stay penniless for too long...
