One day the captain told us he got a special client run to LHS 3447. We were delivering a customized ship and the owner was coming along as a passenger. Nowadays if I took a mission like that I'd know to expect trouble. Back then though the noob in me was just excited to go somewhere different for a change. We secured the ship in our hold, showed the guest to his room, and departed for Bluford Orbital.
As with all shady missions, we eventually ran into trouble. It seemed our "guest" was actually a wanted pirate lord who pissed off his old crew. Between the pirates looking for payback, the bounty hunter looking to collect, and the system security who responded to the ship's automated distress signal when we were first interdicted (and then who scanned us first before firing on the pirates trying to kill us) we didn't stand a chance. I was in the galley when we were first interdicted. I was trying to get to the bridge when the first shots struck us. I don't recall much of what happened next, but I somehow made it to the cargo hold where the customized ship was stored.
It soon became apparent that we weren't getting out of their alive. I broke open the security cabinet that had the keys to the ship and got inside. Using the code the owner gave us I managed to start it up and activate the shields, just in time for our own ship to be ripped in half. The ship I was in managed to survive the blast okay, and somehow in the confusion I was able to fly away into a nearby ice ring. It was then that I learned the code the owner gave us was a valet code, only usable for just a few short kilometers. While I was safe from being discovered by any of the attackers, once the ship went into shutdown mode I thought it would have been better if I had remained in the other ship. I was able to disable the security system, but the damage still rendered the ship inoperable.
After some time had passed though my luck got better. A commander by the name of Tanya Blaine came along and found my ship. She was able to get it back operational, and help guide me to a nearby station. She then directed me to a person who was able to swap the ship I escaped in for a clean Sidewinder and a little extra spending cash. At that point I was on my own and began taking various missions at the station. Eventually I was able to sell that Sidewinder for a Hauler, and set my sights for a new system to work out of.
It was around that point when I received a message inviting me to see Felicity Farseer. I made it to Deciat, but barely. When I learned about what she does there I decided to stick around in the system and take various missions there. I was soon able to trade that Hauler in for a Type-6, and not long after was able to afford an Eagle. I was doing good making my own way in that system, but there was a sea-change with the attitudes of a great many independent commanders passing through that system. It seemed a lot more were just there to kill anyone they came across. I ended up relocating to Zhang Fei to try my fortunes there.
I did alright in Zhang, but since I was still fairly close to Deciat and the murder-hobos I was still keeping an eye open for a new place to operate out of. Eventually I decided to settle in Kamadhenu of all places, before I even realized it was the seat of the Empire. Still I found that area to be a much better climate than the one in Deciat. I traded in my Eagle for a Vulture, and then after some time I traded that for a Dropship. I was soon using that against the various pirate factions in the nearby Calennero and Ugrivrii systems and loving it for the most part.
Sometime had passed after I had gotten used to the area and I eventually learned that the Empire would offer a triple-burst rail gun if I pledged with her for awhile. I began doing that and soon realized my little Type-6 wouldn't hold enough of her fortification materials to get me to the rank I needed for the railgun so I sold it for a Type-9. This also allowed me to take on larger cargo missions when I wanted to. After a month I was finally able to get that railgun installed on the Dropship, and was loving it even more.
After that purchase I was interdicted by another commander. Strangely he wasn't looking for a fight, he was just trying to understand how someone working for ALD could own a FDS. I told him I had gained a bunch of Federal rank back while I was based in Deciat. We soon started running anti-pirate missions together, and he was able to introduce me to other commanders. The first guy soon disappeared (Did the Thargoids get him? Was he part of that Thargoid cult?) so I stopped hanging out in Imperial space and moved to Federation space (I can't recall the system right now though). This mix of commanders soon split into two different groups, not out of animosity towards each other but due to dissimilar goals. I decided to join the Legion of God due to their leader really knowing how to work the BGS, and based myself in LP 804-27. There we started building up the Legion's Armada corporation, and I was soon making fistfuls of credits.
After a few months though the main core of the squad moved onto different things. I decided to join the other group based in Lumbla - the Omega Merchant Command. This squad seemed more motivated to expand their corporation, despite the leader not having as strong of a grasp on the BGS as the other squad leader did. After a while I relocated to BD=05 1146, solely due to the fact that the first station was fairly close to the system's main star. There I began taking Betel Free down by pushing all the other factions in the system. After a month of doing this passed Betel Free was in danger of being kicked out of the system, and OMC was getting ready to expand again. We pushed hard to not only ensure BF was kicked out, but that we took their place.
Sadly the good times were not to last. Our squadron was disrupted by the same outbreak that disrupted everyone else. This caused a few members to leave. Worse, right after that a larger squadron moved into the region and took over a couple systems. This caused even more to leave. Eventually I too left, mainly due to not being able to play as much anymore. I soon found myself back in Imperial space, this time basing myself in Yarrite. There I just started slowly rebuilding my fleet to where I'd like to get each ship. It was slow going, mainly due to personal reasons. The system was good to me, mainly because I wasn't aligned to any one faction like I had been with the two squadrons I was in.
When the terrorist bombings occurred I rejoined OMC. The squad got some new blood due to involvement with the Marlinists, and due to the terror bombings I felt that rejoining the squad at this time may be more beneficial for me than staying in Yarrite and doing my own thing. It seems as though something even bigger would happen, and I wanted to know someone had my back.
Unfortunately what happened decimated our ranks, and it wasn't even a battle with anyone. OMC lost a major supporter. With this news the squad pretty much just dropped down to four. Myself and one other founder, an officer who joined soon after the founding, and the owner. We tried to carry on, but additional events reduced the amount of time most of the remaining squad could dedicate to OMC. So with that I gathered my resources, bid my time, and waited for the stars to be just right before once again returning to Yarrite and rejoining Arissa Lavigny-Duval's power faction. Perhaps this time my actions here will attract the attention of one of the numerous squadrons now operating around here, and with any luck one will invite me to join them.
