The new born Freeman D Lowell was the only survivor on board a downed ship on the planet Camp Donalds, Wolf 359. The wreckage came down on the dark side of the planet, meaning he was spared from soaring temperatures that dominate half of the world for over 35 days at a time.

He was raised by the two rescuers that found him for most of his young life, and started a small interstellar haulage company when he was just sixteen. His business parter, a close friend, was mortally wounded by an Empire patrol ship attacked their freighter, the Ganges, whilst transporting medical supplies to a newly annexed Imperial world. Since then, Cmdr F D Lowell has vowed to honour his friend's memory and to counter Imperial aggression with his own combat skills.
