All I had to do was take a loaner ship, a Sidewinder, over to Gidzenko Ring and deliver a few tons of "goods". The issuer never told me the goods, told me not to ask. As screwed as I was at the moment, I heeded his advice.
This being my first time in the cockpit of any space-worthy craft, I sat down and just soaked in everything. The blinking lights, the warm glow of the sensor holograph, the discomfort of the pilot's seat, the control interface. This Sidewinder was amazing! I've never been in anything like it! Then it dawned on me sitting in that chair... I don't have a damn clue what I'm doing. I don't know how to fly! My handler, sensing my predicament, loaded a few crash-course training videos onto the Systems panel. I don't know if he was joking or foreboding when he called them 'crash-course'. He also updated my understanding of the job at hand. I had to deliver the goods... as long as I don't get scanned in the process. I didn't exactly know what that meant but I didn't have time to ponder. My handler had issued an auto-launch protocol on my... HIS Sidewinder. The landing platform was moving, this ship was about to launch whether I wanted to go with it or not!
I quickly sat down and buckled up. What I had seen in the videos for the past 15 minutes is about to be put to the test. Once the platform was locked in place, I looked up out of the cockpit. Just an endless advance of black with the Milky Way streaking across it. It was breath-taking. The jolt of the launch clamps releasing the Sidewinder knocked me back to the task at hand. Well, here goes nothing...
*CLANG!*
"Commander, you mind telling us what you're doing, screwing around out there?!"
Oops, the vertical thrust I wanted was not the direction I wanted. I just shoved the bottom of the craft, sans the landing legs that had auto-retracted, into the landing pad. That won't be good for the paint.
"This is Commander Sparta117Tetsuo, thrust controls were jacked up. A mechanic must have pressed a control button somewhere. I've got it under control now."
I pressed the throttle in the OPPOSITE direction of what I just did a second before and I saw Trevithick Dock pull away from the horizon of the Sidewinder until it was completely out of view below me. The other videos were starting to show their worth when I jumped to Supercruise without much hassle. I saw LHS 3447 A4 pull away from me at previously unimaginable speeds as the entire LHS 3447 system became available to me. Absolutely incredible! I completed the second half of the LHS 3447 leg of my journey by pulling up the Chamunda system on the ship's navigation panel. I saw an heads-up-display indicator of Chamunda's direction pop up on the cockpit glass. I spooled up the frame shift drive and shot towards a new life.
