Born into a poor family in a small town just outside of the city of Glasgow, Scotland in the United Kingdom on Earth. Khelan didn't have a lot growing up, he learned a lot about making deals and running the occasional scam to make ends meet and put food in his belly. He harboured a lifelong dream to escape his surroundings and join the federal navy, unfortunately he didn't pass the entrance psychological exams due to suffering from attention deficit disorder and his application was rejected.
Khelan swore that he would end up flying one way or another and managed to get his private pilots licence after several attempts. He still didn't have a ship so he was stuck on Earth for several years until one day he won an ancient Sidewinder scout ship playing cards against a member of Glasgow's seedy underbelly, unfortunately for Khelan a couple of the criminals friends were waiting for him to show up to claim his Sidewinder at the spaceport with the intention of claiming their friends ship back from him. Thankfully growing up in the manner in which he did taught him how to fight and he managed to defeat his assailants but at the cost of his right eye. He made it into his sidewinder, managed to get airborne and made it to Abraham Lincoln Orbital Station where he received emergency medical treatment and a cybernetic replacement for his eye.
Upon leaving the medical centre and returning to his ship he found an antique pair of aviator sunglasses in a compartment in the cockpit which he wears to hide his replacement eye. After scraping together a few credits he was able to buy his first load of cargo and started trading determined to make his fortune amoung the stars and to work his way into the Federal Navy through freelance work.
