In two words, a space paladin. As a child, a pirate used his parents' Cobra, and then their escape pods, for weapons testing. When he grew up, he inherited the new Cobra their insurance provided and traded up to develop the means to hunt pirates. When he did eventually track down the long-retired Commander who had killed his family, he landed a Type-9 with a full cargo hold of explosives on top of his residence and detonated it. In keeping with his moral code, no innocents were harmed in the process. He assumed it would be over and done with, but it didn't stop what had now become a compulsion. Six months later, he started saving up again and bought another Sidewinder and began anew.

It's been 20 years, and he's given up on an end. Killing pirates, for no reason but to make the universe a slightly better place with each kill, is simply his accepted life path now.
