I was born on the Ark. I was the third generation of Arkers to live in space, a transitional generation, of the last surviving members of the human race. I had a son, Wells, and was friends with Jake Griffin and his family, with Clarke and Wells becoming best friends.

Before becoming Chancellor of the Ark, I was an engineer and supervised the redesign of sector 5. I was elected Chancellor some time before the problem with the Ark's life support system was discovered. The Council decided to keep on a "need to know" basis to avoid panic, however, when Jake attempted to go public, Abby warned me hoping I would be able to convince Jake not to go through with it. Instead, myself and Kane had Jake floated and Clarke arrested and put into solitary confinement to ensure their silence of the problem.
