Augustus Atraedis was born on July 26, 3254, to two Imperial citizens who together owned a trucking company known simply as Atraedis Truckers. He was born in an unkown station where his parents had made an emergency docking, but spent most of his early life climbing around the bridge and the centrifuge of his parents’ Python, the Delphiki II. (He still retains an affinity for vessels from Faulcon DeLacy to this day, including his Cobra Mk III, the Aquila III; his Krait Mk II, the RSV Centurion; his Python, the RNV Divine Imperium; and his Anaconda, the RSV Caesar.)

He grew up learning the inner workings of his ship; his life consisted mostly of what cargo they were hauling next, and what module was busted now. The outside universe mattered little within the confines of that ship, least of all to Augustus. That changed around the turn of the 3280s; he was 28 years old, and on the verge of taking over the family business. Before that, however, his parents had one more shipment to make. The Delphiki II was the unfortunate target of an interdiction by pirates while carrying an extremely valuable, albeit questionably legal, load of narcotics to pay off a debt to an exceptionally powerful underworld figure. Augustus was forced into the sole escape pod while his parents attempted to fend off the pirates; they managed to damage two of the five hostile ships before the Delphiki II was ripped to shreds, with them inside of it.

Augustus floated for close to 12 hours before an SAR craft found him and towed him in to the local station. He was afforded his inheritance: full control over his parents’ accounts and holdings. He drew on these resources to petition for higher security within the system, but had little success.

To that end, he used what little balance remained, combined with the hefty insurance on his parents’ Python, to finance his own Python: the Retribution. He outfitted the Retribution for combat, blasted through as many training sims as he could find, and began prowling the trade routes of the system. After a few weeks, Augustus found the group of pirates that had initially held up his ship; he made a suicidal charge into their midst and, somehow, managed not only to survive, but to destroy all of the opposing ships in the process. The Retribution was, however, badly damaged, and Augustus found no choice but to limp back into the nearest station with his bounty vouchers in hand.

These experiences instilled in him feelings both that the most powerful of society cared little for those who weren’t on their level, and that the crime and corruption that permeated the bubble was vile, but could be beaten with some effort. With that, he claimed the bounties, repaired and restocked his ship, and set out on his crusade.

All told, it took him two and a half years to realise that working as a solo bounty hunter made it near impossible to wipe out crime as a whole. Combing over GalNet News revealed one group that interested him, a private military corporation known as Darkwater Inc. that held the title of being one of the largest PMCs in history. He packed up the Python and set out for the nearest system where they had a presence, desperate to get away from bounty hunting. Bounty hunting paid the bills, but there were some dangerous criminals out there and, really, dying ain’t much of a living.

He reached a Darkwater recruiting office in late 3285, and enlisted as one of their security contractors. Happy to be receiving a stable source of pay for once, and happy to have others watching his back, he set to work.

For the next sixteen years, Augustus would hover around the official enlisted ranks of the corporation. Unofficially, however, he earned a reputation as a solid worker who would perform any assignment handed down to him - no questions asked. In his ecstasy at finally earning a stable job, he had forgotten his morals, and became more and more involved in the corporate corruption of Darkwater until he was practically breathing it. His time at Darkwater would help to refine his combat skills on the ground - especially when it came to marksmanship and hand-to-hand.

In 3301, the facade broke. Augustus was forced to come to terms with the fact that he’d become no better than those he’d originally set off to vanquish. He left Darkwater that day, and signed on to join the auxiliaries of Omega Company, the Empire’s Advanced Tactical Response units. He wasn’t even close to being good enough to join their main ranks, but his stellar service record with Darkwater landed him a spot in their auxiliary corps - namely, the riot control division. As the system was experiencing mass civil unrest, the riot units were on call most of the day.

It was also around this time that he first learned of Aisling Duval, the “People’s Princess”, who had recently begun moving for the throne. Her stances on narcotics fell in line with his, and while he didn’t care too much about Imperial slaves beforehand, her charismatic media blitzes and populist ideals won him over. He considered his support of her to be part of his penance. He's since become more jaded, however, and stays with her now only out of obligation, as well as to gain her signature Prismatic Shield Generators.

In late 3304, Augustus left Omega Company, and began travelling the galaxy once more - though much faster than last time, thanks to the introduction of the Frame Shift Drive, and now in a relatively stock Sidewinder, as he’d chosen to liquidate most of his assets. He ended up drifting through Federation space, until he one day arrived in the system WISE 1506+7027. There, he came across Redshift Logistics, a corporation that seemed to him like a glance into what could have been a very different future for his family’s old trucking company.

Augustus joined Redshift as a recruit, and worked his way through its ranks until he reached the position that he's at today.

Since then, he’s continued to get up to his old ways, embracing the life of crime and vice and opulence involved in working with a corporation such as Redshift, and has committed to doing whatever it takes for them to prosper. Augustus knows that one day, his misdeeds will catch up with him, and when it rains, it truly does pour. Until then, though, he lives life on the edge, and always remembers to take the time daily to relax, enjoy a finely-rolled Kamitra cigar, a glass of Lavian brandy, served neat, and a snide comment about the Federation on the GalNet forums (typically cursing them for banning the import of tobacco in their systems).

Yes, life has a way of catching up with you… but until then, drinks are on him.
