Beginning her career as the pilot of an unarmed courier ship, the "Borealis," CMDR Bausell took part in relief efforts on behalf of a plague-stricken planetary outpost, retrieving medical supplies and delivering research data on the outbreak. During a planetside escape pod retrieval mission where she was informed that she was to recover medical personnel whose ship had come under pirate attack, she identified canisters of nerve agents amid the crash site. Refraining from informing her contacts of what she found, she chose instead to destroy them on-site, returning to the stricken colony with newfound suspicions. When the outbreak was brought under control, with the trust she had earned with the station's controlling faction, she was offered a new contract - this time specifically to retrieve missing nerve agents.

Knowing that if she refused the job it would be taken by someone else, CMDR Bausell accepted the task, but upon arriving at the retrieval site, she again chose to destroy them, to head off whatever nefarious act had been planned for their use. This act incurred the wrath of her former contacts, who placed a bounty on her when she failed to return. The mercenary they hired found his mark, and in the course of another delivery contract, CMDR Bausell was interdicted, her ship destroyed. She lost an eye in the attack, left adrift until a scavenging independent pilot found her.

After losing the "Borealis," and her resulting disfigurement, CMDR Bausell began accepting contracts hunting pirates on behalf of the Green Party of Deciat. She used her earnings to better outfit her fighting DBS, the "Sharjila," but her career as an enforcer was short-lived. After one such job, she was informed that the target she had been sent to terminate was innocent - a case of mistaken identity by her employer. Disgusted, both with her employer and herself, she went into a long period of self-imposed exile, plying the unknown in a specially outfitted Diamondback Explorer she named the "Kowi Anuskasha," until her path led her back to human space and into the service of Aisling Duval, where she sought a more organized way of improving the world around her than accepting questionable kill contracts.
