I seek educate others about Elite Dangerous and help others enjoy Elite Dangerous as much as I do. I enjoy helping others and flying with other fun and positive CMDRs. I have a lot of varied experience with most game-play types in Elite Dangerous. I aim to be proficient in most areas of play. I particularly enjoy theory-crafting and learning about and understanding ship engineering theory. I have published the first section of a comprehensive guide to combat engineering, I aim to publish the final section soon.

CMDR James Deftbridge was born in 3271 in the Evnike system. His parents are blue collar company haulers. On the return trip of a hauling route, his father found an abandoned orange-painted Sidewinder on the surface of a rocky world while scanning a system for some side cash. He landed the company-owned T7 nearby, ditched some of the cargo racks and stuffed the derelict Sidewinder inside. After many years of his father scrounging for parts; using some savings to purchase a new FSD, the Sidewinder was ready. With damp eyes, his father gifted the orange sidewinder to Deftbridge with a simple request: "Be kind, give back when you can, and most of all stay curious."

Deftbridge initially used his new Pilots Federation license for a brief stint being an assistant bounty hunter. After saving enough, he spent every last credit he had and upgraded to an Adder with a mining outfit. Through a contact in the IMU, Deftbridge found himself in the Borann system brimming with optimism. That optimism was not misplaced, during the LTD boom of 3306 Deftbridge quickly accrued wealth and eventually became the proud new owner of his own personal fleet carrier. After the boom subsided, Deftbridge began an exploration expedition along the Perseus arm of the Galaxy. Through the IMU comms channels, he met a notorious, energetic, and indomitable Commander by the name of Kate Balthazar. After hearing about her plight and her wild dreams to form a squadron of Commanders to defend the people in Aisling Duval space and create community of positive like-minded individuals, Deftbridge returned to the bubble to co-found and co-lead the Great Starlight Brigade.

The Great Starlight Brigade went on become one of the strongest Aisling Duval powerplay squadrons, whose combined efforts in major expansions often accounted for more than a 25% of all merits done. BRGD won a 2nd place medal for most Powerplay merits during their inaugural cycle, even beating Aisling Duval's top squadron Aisling's Angels. Eventually their free spirit won over their allegiance to Aisling Duval; BRGD declared independence from Powerplay and Imperial expectation.

Deftbridge flew the BRGD flags until certain Commanders within the BRGD ranks began attacking new Commanders, this clashed with his personal beliefs. Unwilling to be associated with those type of Commanders; a desire to still be associated with Aisling Duval powerplay; coupled with the ongoing Thargoid War, Deftbridge left the BRGD and joined the Marauders Vanguard.
