Born into a wealthy family, Rex never wanted for anything during his childhood. When his father died shortly after his 11th birthday his elder brother inherited the family fortune and spent the next 3 years spending it, before disappearing completely to avoid his not inconsiderable gambling debts.

Aged 19, Rex was working a dead end job in a redemption office, paying out large bounties to pilots not much older than himself, who told him of the opportunities a pilot's licence could open up for him, and resolved to get one no matter how hard he had to work.

A year later he had saved enough credits to pay for the training and enrolled at his local Pilots Federation college at Mawson Dock.

A few weeks of study and he was ready to take the test and finally gained the coveted piece of parchment that he hoped would be the key to regaining his previous life of plenty...
