Stannis Jellicoe was born on Earth, mankinds ancient home world in 3268, his grandfather had settled there after making his fortune trading between Sol and Barnards Star in the early years of the century but by the time Sannis was born the family's fortune had been whittled away by bad luck and bad investments so his upbringing was comfortable rather than wealthy. The young man also had the stars in his blood on his mothers side as his uncle had been a spacer good enough to get himself involved in the Alliance mission to the Thargoids in the 50's, but his unexplained disappearance a few years later and the lack of any convincing explanation has cast a shadow over his family ever since.
All his life Jellicoe dreamed of the stars and longed to follow his grandfather and uncle into space, not as a freelance pilot though, young Stannis had his heart set on a career in the Federal Navy and at the age of eighteen he was accepted into the navy's academy on Eta Cassiopeia. At the academy Jellicoe excelled as a pilot but was not offered a commission due to a hot temper and record of chronic insubordination.
Denied the naval career he had set his heart on but still determined to make his living in space Jellicoe applied to the Elite Federation of Pilots and received his wings. He began his career putting his combat skills to work hunting low level criminals until he could afford to begin long distance rare goods trading until he could pay for a Lakon Type 7 freighter and began trading in bulk between Epsilon Serpentis and Mabe, establishing a thriving business and making himself a very rich man. He turned to bounty hunting once more when his engineer was killed in his escape pod by pirates and waged a one man war on the Hand Gang of Epsilon Serpentis which was so successful he earned Elite status as a combateer. Jellicoe has not been seen for several months and rumours abound that he has joined up with a shadowy group known as Loren's Reapers
