Former Federal Navy Post Commander from Earth, Blake Rainer found fame and glory during a number of high risk conflicts. He started out flying escort missions for the Federal Capital ship, FNS Varian Scott. He flew an Aegis class Condor fighter, leading sorties against INV forces and pirates alike. During a sortie against an Imperial settlement, his Condor was shot down, crashing in the middle of the conflict zone. Rainer, however, continued the fight, exiting the wreck and taking up arms alongside his fellow soldiers. He turned the tide of this battle, driving the Imperial forces out of the system in this pivotal battle. His prowess in combat earned him a promotion and upgrade from his condor as well as the nickname "Monarch". He quickly adopted this as a callsign, Monarch 1. He used the ships he was given to climb in ranks within the navy to the rank of Post Commander. However, he earned enough credits to purchase a python and registered it as a federal naval vessel rather than using federal issued vessels. Soon after, the second thargoid conflict broke out in the wake of several station attacks across the nebula systems. Instead of being assigned to rescue operations, Rainer was reassigned to escort the FNS Varian Scott. After several close encounters with thargoids, he was quickly praised for his ability to neutralize the threat while saving his wing. He was hailed as a hero and avid bug hunter.

His experience and efforts drew the attention of Admiral Tanner, who, along with Rainer, requested his transfer to Aegis under the Anti-Xeno wing. Despite their efforts, Rainer was denied transfer and the Varian Scott fleet was relocated to systems closer to Sol where he engaged in standard naval operations while independent pilots handled the Xeno threat and rescue operations. During a conflict with an accused group of pirates near Sol, Rainer found himself in a tourist resort, defending a group of civilians from a rogue federal faction. He managed to drive them away, saving the settlement. These civilians left an impression on him that would change the way he sees the galaxy forever. The rogue faction was routed out in secret with Rainer leading the charge. Zachary Hudson recommended Rainer the rank of Captain, but Rainer declined the promotion, promptly requesting discharge from the Federal Navy. He was granted his request and was discharged with the highest honors, given the honorary rank of Rear Admiral. A token of gratitude for his ferocity in defending his allies.

After he parted ways with the navy, he made his living as an independent pilot under the Pilot's Federation. He quickly made a fortune through bounty hunting, mercenary work, trade, exploration and AX operations. He quickly earned the rank of Elite in the three major disciplines of the Pilot's Federation, marking himself among legends. He used his Honorary rank to purchase a Federal Corvette and dubbed it the AGS Excalibur Invictus. This vessel served as his flagship in several incidents. Most Chiefly, the Nine Martyr's incident. He used this vessel to rescue civilians in both federal and imperial systems that fell victim to the attacks. Due to its durability and size, he was able to rescue thousands of refugees in both systems. This earned him the recognition and rank of Duke in the Imperial Navy, despite his history. He later went on an expedition to Sagittarius A*, taking some time away from the bubble of humanity. He had made a number of discoveries ranging in notable stellar phenomenon to unknown black holes. However, upon his return to civilized space, he was met with a cry for help from the galactic summit of Serius, thrusting him back into the chaos of the day to day life of an independent pilot.

After some time of retirement, Rainer returned to the life of a pilot, earning enough credits to purchase a Victory Class Fleet Carrier. This vessel became his flagship, the AGS Host of Vindiction. Soon after, news of a figure known as Salvation reached Rainer. He was skeptical, but Salvation offered a means to an end of the thargoid war. Like many pilots, Rainer answered the call, unknowingly helping Salvation build xenocidal weapons. After Admiral Tanner began assaulting the Taurus Mining Ventures HQ, Rainer joined the fight against Salvation to no avail. Salvation had survived, later announcing his true identity and Azimuth's revival. However disturbing this revelation, Rainer still sought a means to end the conflict. He headed the call to arms in several systems, defending and supplying Salvation with the means to destroy the enemy, while also secretly delivering the weapons to Ram Tah. Months later, when the AGS Host of Vindiction became space worthy, the news of Salvation's Proteus Wave was announced. Pilots flocked to HIP 22460 to bring about and end to the thargoid war. The Host's maiden voyage was to the edges of HIP 22460 to launch sorties from. Here, Rainer reunited with the FNS Varian Scott, once again acting as an escort with the AGS Excalibur Invictus. However, this was short lived, as the Proteus Disaster lead to the deaths of nearly every human life within the system.
