In late 3304, an administrative change in San Tu led to Rex Montgomery's location leaked. Wanted as a criminal by the Federation for his mercenary work, he was ushered away to a secret system where he underwent multiple years of harsh torture that stripped him of his previous identity. Sometime in May 3307 following the Thargoid resurgence, Rex was released back to the Empire, "no strings attached." However, it was quickly discovered that his psyche has been "cracked open like an egg," per the reports of multiple psychologists attempting to make sense of the man that had gone missing for almost 3 years. Desperate for talented commanders to serve the Empire, he was released from psychiatric care early in 3308. Although he is more stable than he was almost a year ago, he is clearly in a state not fully healed from the years of damage done to his mind.
