I'm a commander of a ship! An actual FSD capable ship!

Yes, it's a Sidewinder.

Yes, it's a loaner.

But I command it, so it's mine, to all intents and purposes...

I'd completed all my Pilot exams and was just killing time helping out the old lady in her bar on Worlidge (The Spacegoat on level 8, the Yakabugai IPA is verrrry nice...)

She'd worked hard over the years, determined that I would get through the academy.  Dad had gone and gotten himself spaced when I was about 7 when he was mining the rings, and mum was determined I did better in life than he did, like mums do, so she came here, rented a rundown unit and opened a bar with the compensation from the mining company.  Then she worked and saved hard to pay for me getting educated.

And, of course, the other education I got in the Goat...the tales of pirates taking down Fed fleets, of neutron stars, with their plumes of radiation killing ships who stray too close, worlds unbelievably like the Mother planet, Earth.  Hell, even seeing Earth! These tales would fill my dreams, and it was inevitable that I would fly off into the black and see it for myself.

And on the stroke of 3AM today, my Pilot Federation licence came through!
