Nira took up flying solo herself in 3300 after her parents retired to Tau Ceti, having flown in tandem with her mother throughout her childhood. In 3304, she also joined the revived Sisters of Meropis, following the example of the revived order's founder, Commander Suhono. But Nira longed for life on the frontier, and for several years lived aboard her Krait Phantom. In 3308, she settled in the Amatsuboshi system of the Colonia region, living the life of a solitary Sister of Meropis who occasionally received others for spiritual guidance. For two years, her ships were mothballed and she lived comfortably in Hayabusa Landing.
In early 3310, she was selected to become the master and captain of the fleet carrier Pale Moon of January, and moved her residence to the carrier in anticipation for a life spent in deep space, on the galactic frontier. With nearly two hundred new crew members under her command, all volunteers from the Meropis system, Nira found herself not just in charge of a strategic asset for explorers in deep space, but having become the unflappable, young mother figure to a crew that knew they would not see home again for a long time – if ever.
When not exploring deep space or carrying out her duties aboard her carrier, Commander Nira Sol enjoys watching holo-recordings of ancient Earth automobile races, and replicates stuffed animals for her quarters – sometimes she even fabricates clothing for them. Her eyes are advanced prostheses, said to be the result of an accident in her late teenage years. Intensely spiritual, focused, and compassionate, Nira thrives on the frontier, and happily converses with even the lowest-ranked crew aboard the Pale Moon, knowing that it may be years before any of them see home again.
