Dayson Fane is a notorious raider and blackhat who styles himself as a revolutionary. He is reviled by all the superpowers and the Club due to his disruptive activities all over the human bubble, while a number of independents and oppressed peoples consider him a friend. Some of his more infamous works include hacking a number of interstellar communication arrays and picking entire moons clean of valuables. There's seemingly nothing he won't plunder, so long as it doesn't belong to anyone he respects.

Born in 3268, Fane was a homeless orphan for much of his early life and was forced to earn his bread by picking pockets and committing burglary for Taylor Colony's street gangs. His talent for infiltration helped him rise through the ranks as he grew, slowly improving his circumstances. By the time he was fourteen, he was one of the most accomplished thieves in Tau Ceti's capital.

That all ended when his gang ran afoul of the Tau Ceti system's shadowy, eccentric masked rebel clan: the True Cetians. Having unwittingly targeted a major politician that the Cetians were after, Fane's fellow gang members found themselves fighting a losing battle for their lives while the young, fearful, and opportunistic thief broke into a nearby warehouse to hide. The politician chose to follow his lead and hide in the same place, locking the door behind him and attempting to throttle the boy. Fane picked the man's pocket for his sidearm and killed him before the victorious Cetians discovered him drenched in their target's blood. On that day, Fane was taken from his hometown to be trained as the newest member of the True Cetian clan.

It was during his eight years with the Cetians that Fane acquired skills for hacking, infiltration, sabotage, marksmanship, and starship piloting. They also taught him their rebel philosophy and the art of controlling his emotions and mental focus through meditative breathing. Although his mastery of combat skills was relatively weak compared to that of his brethren, his command of his "rebel spirit" was regarded as top-class and helped him survive dangers and overcome challenges that had killed many more experienced Cetians. At the height of his career, he participated in some of their most daring and damaging operations against Federal and Imperial influencers in Taylor Colony's government.

When he was twenty-two years old, Fane fell in love with the daughter of one of his targets and left the True Cetians to be with her, having his memories altered to protect the clan. He had a daughter with her and worked as a spaceport IT engineer to support her while she studied and sought funding for the grand exobiology project she desired to embark upon. Life was difficult, at first, but they built a home and a stable bank account together and raised their child well. Eighteen years later, Fane's wife was making a landmark discovery in her field while their daughter had already earned a doctoral degree in computer science and was working as a whitehat hacker for the Tau Ceti governor's office. He was blissfully happy and his days as a revolutionary terrorist seemed almost like memories of a previous life.

Then, once more, his whole life changed course.

Fane's wife, who had departed on an expedition to the distant Izanami region, missed her scheduled return deadline. Both Fane and his daughter sprang into action, using their various skills and connections to try to locate her. They eventually learned that the ship she had booked passage on was attacked and destroyed out in the black, her death having been ordered by a mysterious, clandestine individual known only by the codename "Exo." The event shocked Fane's buried memories back into the light and he donned the suit and mask of the Cetians for the first time in almost nineteen years. He intended to use the information obtained from his daughter's hacking as a starting point for his own crusade against Exo while keeping her in the dark about his identity.

However, he noticed the response of Exo's agents too late to rescue her. They kidnapped her and, seeing her potential as a test subject for an experiment involving the use of an alien signal to alter human brain function, exposed her to a grueling battery of tests before Fane eventually found her and murdered all of her captors. Trapped inside her own mind, the young woman's skill, efficiency, and intuition as a hacker was increased to savant-like levels at the expense of her ability to care for herself and function in human society. Her condition deeply saddened Fane, who was now doubly motivated to oppose Exo and the complacent superpower governments who allowed him to operate with impunity.

One year later, Fane had become an independent pilot and acquired the tools he needed to face his nemesis. Together with his daughter aboard their mobile base, the Revenant Spear, he launched his endless crusade against the forces of elitism and tyranny... and discovered that he could have a good deal of fun and make a tidy profit while doing it!
