I am Claudius, Claudius Ptolemy. I was born in the Avalon system. I remember that this system was under strict Imperial control. I remember coming from a middle class background and growing up in a community that was strongly influenced by the values and discipline of the Empire. Despite limited means, my family emphasised education, which gave me access to basic scientific and technical knowledge.

At the age of 18, I began studying medicine and biology at an Imperial academy. I graduated with a degree in medicine and biology, a degree in biomedicine and biomedical sciences, and a master's degree in bioinformatics, and completed this with a doctorate in both fields.

As head of the genetics and research department for a company not mentioned here, I worked for a number of years on issues relating to the human organism in space.
