The hairs on the back of my neck stand to attention and my forehead breaks out in a sweat, even though the ship's cold. Panic sets in as the station I'm in begins it's scan of my ship. For some reason my stomach turns and I cant think why. I've nothing to hide, but wait! I'm on a strange ship and cant remember jack shit. That's when I check my hold and I go numb... 4 tonnes of illegal muntions. I check my transactions and it tells me I have a 500k credit bounty on my head. I cant stay here. If they complete that scan I'm as good as dead.
6 seconds til they finish that scan. Moorings released... the engine hums gently as I lift off away from the pad as quickly as possible without drawing attention to myself. 4 seconds... I line up with the mail slot and throttle up, maintaining composure trying to look innocent. 2 seconds... Almost there, I can hear the hum of the stations atmos shield as I near it. 0 seconds... My hud becomes alive with warnings and the cockpit dips into red light as it prepares itself for whats to come. The stations automatic weapons oscillate towards me, getting a fix on my signature. I have to move now! I reroute all power to engines and hit my booster! I'm flung back in my seat, not sure if its the engines or whether I've been hit. Nothing on the hud so it must be the engines. I make it out of the slot and out of the range of the station defences and sigh, relieved that I got out.
But things are never that easy. Something slams hard into my port side and my little Sidey rolls from the impact. My shields are gone and I'm reading 46% hull left. I look for what hit me and for the second time in the past ten minutes my heart hits the floor. A Vulture, ship name [Pirate's Bane]. Great, just great. All I need right now is a damn bounty hunter on my six. There's no way I can outrun him or outgun him. I check my shield and its still got 34 seconds until it regens. My only hope is to hide within the station's framework.
