Lee's family is part of the Taylor clan, an extended family of spacers going back centuries. He was named for his grandfather who had been lost in space and presumed dead. However, after having an been lost for thirty years, his grandfather had returned, now younger than his father. Following a hyperdrive malfunction, his grandfather was forced to break the speed restrictor on his ship and travel at near luminal speed to the nearest inhabited system. He therefore suffered from time dilation effects, but returned home safely.
His family decided to give birth to and raise him on a high gravity world, in order to strengthen his anatomy. He was born and raised in Way in the Wyrd system. Way was at the time conceived as poster child for fully automated luxury communism, governed by the Wyrd People's Party. It maintained strict control over immigration, so it had few permanent residents despite being a massive terraformed world. Lee was never counted amongst its permanent residents, and indeed lived on board his family's old Panther Clipper.
He trained locally as a navigational watch officer and served on board bulk cargo ships before his induction into the Pilot's Federation in 3301. It wasn't until then that he truly discovered the extent of poverty in the galaxy in comparison to the ordered luxury of Wyrd. This helped him to become one of the first members of Communism Interstellar, a group of Pilot's Federation members united under the rallying call of Vektor Zaremov.
During his tenure as comrade in the group, Lee has been a stalwart supporter of communist governments and has helped to liberate hundreds of systems from tyranny. Lee ranks amongst the most accomplished Commanders in the galaxy, having amassed a considerable personal fortune, and is an expert in applied political science, resources which he turns to his consuming goal of galactic liberation.
In the intervening time, Way's communist government fell to outside forces. He feels a strong connection to the system and yearns for its eventual liberation, but believes that his efforts can best be put on the frontier, where the sting of poverty from colonial exploitation is felt most acutely by the humble workers of the galaxy.
