| Rob Zacharias was born in the system Mari on 21 June 3255. His parents were Robert Zacharias, a salesman and engineer, and Pauline Miller. In 3275, the family moved to Regira, where he and his father founded a small company, that manufactured terraforming equipment for colonies. Until then there is little known about R.Z. - a nickname his mother gave him, because he shared the same name as his father. He probably has lived a formidable life due to his heritage after his father died in 3287 and his mother in 3294. In 3295, his father's company failed: the terraforming capabilties of their equipment used a technique that was outdated and the death of his parents lead from one bad business decision to another. In search of new prosperity, R.Z. moved to Apurui, first near the known station Dugan Gateway and then, a few months later, to Hereford City. It was during his time in Dugan Gateway that he decided to renounce the family company completely and pursue a career in spacefaring. In 3299, at the age of 44, Zacharias sat the entrance examinations for the Pilot Federation. He failed to reach the required standard in the general part of the examination, but obtained exceptional grades in business and reconnaissance. Failing a company and being unsuccessful in theory was a real blow. On the advice of the principal of the Academy, he attended the examinations a second time and passed in 3300.
