When Baker turned 30 he had left Atlas due to internal strife and a lack of leadership showing initiative. He invested in his Vulture and began bounty hunting again after longing for some action. He eventual found himself back home in Lao Wangu where a new feudal faction had taken control known as Phoenix Eternals. Their leader CMDR PaPa Phoenix saw potential in him and after a few conflicts, he installed Baker as the local Daimyo for the Lao Wangu System for the clan.
After some time the Second Thargoid War erupted throwing the Bubble into chaos. Baker had amassed with the help of his clan a Fleet Carrier by the name of Aces n' Eights to serve as a mobile command post to stave off the Thargoids. After the activation of the Proteus Wave by Salvation, Baker personally scouted one of the Titans a week before it arrived into the Bubble for his clan with the help of CMDR Krog Pew-Pew. After months of battle and the loss of many fellow pilots, Baker felt that in order to help the survival of his clan and humanity by extension, he must find a fallback position in the void for his allies in case the Bubble fell. The position was to be a line in the sand to protect his people and steer the Thargoids away from Colonia. If all else failed, at least the far off colonies would be safe for a time...
To his sadness, he left inhabited space aboard his carrier and felt like he was abandoning his people. For two months he searched the void for a glimpse of hope with no word from the Bubble on the progress against the alien hordes knocking on humanities doorstep. He traveled and found many wonders, but nothing he found gave him the satisfaction he wandered the black looking for. In truth, he still felt as though he left his people to die. After over two months, he decided to return home to known space and see what awaited him.
