Michael and Jessica did not consider any system home, instead living on their Type 9 Transporter as their chosen profession afforded little time to stay in one place. The first expeditions to Colonia were taken hold and the promise of a wondrous new part of the galaxy to explore was tempting to the young couple. They had planned to ply their trade as traders and passenger transport until they had made a comfortable amount of money and retire to Colonia. In turn with parents plying the profession of trading, Jacob spent most of life on stations and star ships rarely venturing planetside, and only for a few hours when they did.
He hadn't set foot on a solid ground with a breathable atmosphere until he was seven years old when his parents visited Earth to see Jacob's only living extended relative at the time, his father's aunt. They're they visited Hawaii, specifically the World War 2 memorial at Pearl Harbor where Jacob discovered that his middle name was from a distant great great etc. Grandfather who had served aboard the USS Nevada during the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Empire which brought the United States into that war.
After that visit, it would be another decade before he went back to an Earth like world. In the meantime he learned quickly how to run a star ship from his parents and the rest of the crew that his parents employed, until he turned 20. At that point he decided to venture out on his own. His mother and father had been setting aside a percentage of their earning for their son as a cut for his part in their trading efforts. By this point it was a sizable amount of credits and Jacob decided to venture out on his own and joined the Pilot's Federation. He quickly displayed his piloting prowess, having spent more time in the co-pilot seat of his parent's type-9 than anywhere else. After cutting his teeth on the Sidewinder given to him by the Pilot's Federation, he upgraded to a Cobra Mark III and ventured out to explore.
Much of his life, aside from the journey to Colonia and back, had been spent in the bubble. He had been enamored by all the various nebula outside the large cockpit of the Type-9 and watched them for hours as the ship lumbered through supercruise. Though he knew that trading would always be in his blood, he wanted to set out and explore those nebula. He eventually traded in his Cobra and used the money his parents had given him to purchase and outfit an Asp-Explorer. To this day, that ship which he lovingly named the Artemis after the Greek goddess of the Moon and the Hunt, is still part of his growing fleet.
