Born in the Gridge system in 3283, Bensova Volkner has dedicated his life to fixing the mistakes of his family. His Grandfather, Severine Volkner, pledged fealty to Archon Delaine, forever tarnishing the Volkner Family name. His father became a pirate himself, but did so to fight back against Severine. He succeeded, but returned with his fleet to find that they were not welcome in the Empire. Bensova's devotion to the Empire comes from the desire to improve his family's reputation, although he does not know how far he has to go to repair the damage. Regardless, he believes that the Empire's power and opulence make it the greatest of the superpowers.

Pragmatic and Egalitarian, he believes that all people have a chance at success, but not all deserve it. While he was born wealthy, hard work got him to the position of being a member of the Pilot's Federation, and believes that hard work is the key to success in life.

Originally his mother arranged a marriage for him with a nearby wealthy imperial family, but this was forcibly declined by Bensova as he instead sought a position in the Imperial Military. This path took him from being a regular soldier, to joining the Imperial Navy, to eventually rising into a special position within the Emperor's private guard.

Despite hating the Federation as much as the next Imperial, he believes that peace is possible, or at least attempting to shy away from conflict as much as possible. But Bensova recognizes that the Federation has instigated many conflicts in the past.

While not amazingly wealthy compared to some in the Empire, Bensova owns a myriad of businesses on the planet New California, ranging from Restaurants to nightclubs to clinics. He has a lot of money, but prefers to live modestly, putting the majority of the wealth into Imperial investments, or his personal fleet, rather than living lavishly.
