Ship details

This Lakon DBX was originally purchased as a light multipurpose ship to travel around the Bubble without risking the high rebuy of the Python-class vessel then called Serenity, now Polar Domain. However, it never entered active service, being superseded instead by the Anaconda-class Precarious Dividend.

A year later, the acquisition of a specially engineered size-5 FSD, uniquely suited for small vessels, made the Polite Defiance more valuable as a long-range explorer. It was refitted with a standard lightweight exploration template, and achieved an unladen jump range of 62ly. A year after that, the addition of a Guardian FSD booster brought this range to 72ly, although it required sacrificing most of the vessel's cargo space, AFMU and refuel limpet controller. The ship can still do each of the things it was built to do, but only by swapping out its specialized internals when appropriate. Its energy budget is barely fulfilled by an undersized 3D power plant, although the SRV hangar can only be powered while on the ground.

The Polite Defiance has never carried weapons in active service, though it has on one occasion employed Point Defence cannons to provide missile defence on a Guardian expedition. Its name reflects a philosophy of denying hostile engagements and evading conflict.
