Black Magic is my racing ship. She is named after Black Magic or NZL 32 which won the 1995 America's cup thus bringing the Alud Mug to New Zealand and making Sir Peter Blake's "Lucky Red Socks" (a present from his wife) something of a trademark. Sir Peter Blake headed Team New Zealand in 1995 right up till 2000. Sir Peter Blake was murdered in 2001 by pirates. following his murder, red socks became a badge of mourning to his many admirers myself included. Black Magic is now on display in Auckland's Maritime Museum as the centrepiece to honour him. My Black Magic is also to honour Sir Peter Blake and I'll always have my "Lucky Red Socks" on my desk next to me when I'm using her for luck and to honour Sir Peter Blake.
