Skíðblaðnir is a deep space exploration vessel specialized in extended operations beyond carrier or station range. It is equipped with an extensive sensor array for the discovery and analysis of new worlds and systems. It also features a planetary landing suite permitting exobiology and material scavenging using the onboard Scarab class SRV.

Skíðblaðnir boasts an impressive 72 light year range, which can be extended to 288 light years through the use of neutron star jetcone boosts. With a laden jump range of only 470 LY, Skíðblaðnir makes heavy use of its 4A Fuel Scoop to push its range to virtually the entire galaxy, as long as a main sequence star is within proximity.

To compensate for the damage received from FSD overcharging, Skíðblaðnir is equipped with an auto field maintenance unit to repair itself on the fly. Additionally, the ship is able to synthesize extra AFM refills, SRV fuel and repair, FSD injections and much more, allowing for extended operations away from carrier or station support.

The ship's namesake is the Skíðblaðnir of Norse mythology: a ship unparalleled in its capability, the finest of ships in the mythology originally built by the Sons of Ivaldi for the god Freyr. One of its many notable abilities is that it may be folded up like a sheet of cloth and placed in one's pocket when not in use. It appears multiple times in the Prose Edda, notably in the books Gylfaginning and Skáldskaparmál.
