The Maersk design was modified in early 3305 from a Trade Vessel to fulfill the role of Mining. It retained all of its heavy-duty protection and limited Combat capabilities for self-defense.
Capable of achieving considerable acceleration and velocity, movement though the Mining area was swift but also permitted rapid egress, should it ever have to.

Like most other Vessels of the Fleet, in Jun 3306 the Maersk was converted into a Carrier Support Vessel.
While its role somewhat resembles its initial Transport Design, it is now capable to provide heavily protected Transport capabilities even under the most hostile conditions.
In late 3306, the Vessel received an additional Equipment Package, allowing it to be converted on the fly into a Mining Rig with focus on heavy strip-mining. While this specialized package retains no combat capability, it gives the Vessel additional Utility while operating in remote Deep Space.
