The Iridium Design is a byproduct generated from the Type-10's distinct design elements and limitations.
Its existing capabilities perfectly fit he role of a large, heavy-duty Mining Platform, where it nicely expands upon original Type-9 Mining designs while offering some distinct combat potential.

Unaffected by the strategic shift of Jan 3305, however, it was scheduled to continue service unmodified.

In Jun 3306, the Iridium was converted into a Carrier Support Vessel with optimized defensive capabilities and able to perform autonomous Mining Operations in Deep Space.
