The USS Enterprise (NCC170) was a 23rd century Federation Starfleet Constitution-class Starship operated by Federation Starfleet, and the first Starship to bear the name Enterprise. During its career, the Enterprise served as the Federation Starfleet flagship and was in service from 2245 to 2285(until the Refit in 2982, when most of the classic Federation Starfleet Starships were taken and refitted to modern class). During the latter years of its life, the Enterprise was refitted into a Constitution II-class Starship and served as a training vessel until its destruction in 2285.

The USS Enterprise was one of the more iconic Starships as it had not only one of the best crews with one of them being one of the first few Vulcans to be on a Federation Starship, known as; S'chn T'gai Spock. It also had one of thee, if not thee most iconic Captains, known as Captain James T. Kirk, who was the only ever Captain to beat the "Kobayashi Maru" challenge. For training Cadets coming through the Federation Starfleet Academy, it was bared impossible to win, the nominal goal of the exercise is to rescue the civilian fuel ship 'Kobayashi Maru', which is damaged and stranded in neutral territory between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. The cadet being evaluated must decide whether to attempt to rescue the Kobayashi Maru endangering their ship and crew, or leave the Kobayashi Maru to inevitable destruction. If the cadet chooses to attempt a rescue, an insurmountable enemy force attacks their vessel. By reprogramming the test(cheating), James T. Kirk became the only cadet to overcome the Kobayashi Maru simulation.
