The PFV Longinus is a highly modified and engineered Anaconda classified as a heavy frigate and a multi-mission explorer. She was named after the legendary name of Christian history given in medieval and some modern Christian traditions to the Roman soldier who pierced Jesus in his side with a lance, the "Holy Lance", during the Crucifixion. She was built as a heavily armed combative transport with some capability of exploration, and outfitted to meet or exceed the Pilot's Federation's standards for medium to long-range solo covert operations.

With her construction completed on January 31, 3303, the Pilot's Federation's IntraGalactic Naval Intelligence Services (I.G.N.I.S.) acquired her fresh off the assembly line in Thurston Ring of the Qama System on February 6, 3303, thus adding a new Anaconda to their line. Further outfitting took her to multiple engineers to get her up to standards. At her christening, the Pilot's Federation gave her the prefix 'PFV', her new name, and her hull classification registry 'FFH-2300'. Afterwards, she finally docked in Ising Vision in the Neto System where she was stationed as her temporary port of call with the I.G.N.I.S.'s 626th Squadron, commonly known as The Wild Wyverns, or Wyvern Squadron. She is put under the command of Squadron Leader CMDR Dynahi Khavu shortly after the PFV Campanella (FFL-1230) was rendered inoperable on Ferbruary 8, 3303 during a classified mission where he was primarily involved in. He and the surviving crew were then transferred to the PFV Longinus as her active crew and conducted her trials and eventually continue into her commission into active duty.

After successfully completing multiple trials, with her final trial being a full combat ability stress test during a combat operation in the Rahu System, she was commissioned into immediate active duty. With the reconstruction of the PFV Campanella completed in Ising Vision, and after CMDR Dynahi finally acquired the Sol Permit, the 626th "Wild Wyverns" Squadron received orders from the Pilot's Federation to head for the Sol System and link up with the 1st, 22nd, 453rd and 489th Squadrons, and with her and the 626th Squadron's new port of call, the station M.Gorbachev, to begin operations for the Pilot's Federation in the area on March 2, 3303. After being locked down in her new hangar, she will not see her first official mission (Operation Dark Fall) until April 19, 3303 that will take her almost 11,000 light years away from Sol until her return on May 7, 3303, spending two weeks and four days outside of the inhabited bubble.

The results of Operation Dark Fall was a success for the Longinus and her crew, but it brought forth a frightening revelation that I.G.N.I.S. Command issued orders for all of its squadrons to have their ships refitted and engineered to the highest degree possible within their means. The Longinus and her crew were ordered to the Cubeo system to meet with a shadow contact on obtaining several Prismatic Shields needed to bolster the strength of the Wild Wyverns' shields as part of the refit. This lead to CMDR Dynahi temporarily pledging allegiance to Aisling Duval for four weeks and delivering seven hundred and fifty merits worth of propaganda in order to obtain them. On June 8, 3303, the Longinus and the other larger ships had access to the Prismatic Shields and began engineering them for optimized resilience, and hope it is enough for whatever it is that is coming, but CMDR Dynahi has doubts that it will help.

Those doubts were realized on June 13, 3303 while passing through HIP 17044 transporting valuable Unknown Fragments to Professor Ishmael Palin with two teams of elite S.C.A.R. (Space Combat Assault & Recon) on boad from I.G.N.I.S. Command to protect the cargo. An emergency distress signal was detected while in supercruise which prompted the Longinus to investigate. Upon dropping out of supercruise, they were greeted by a ship graveyard consisting of two Farragut Battle Cruisers, three Federal Corvettes, seven Federal Drop Ships and a few Condor Fighters with all of them covered in a sickly green residue with matching gaseous cloud substance. It was undoubtedly a Thargoid attack as revealed by a nearby beacon giving out a phonetic coded message. This realization that even capital ships can be destroyed with ease was unsettling for I.G.N.I.S. Command and prompted them, in conjunction with several Canonn researchers and Professor Palin, to create new equipment to defend against the impending Thargoid threat.

Thargoid activity in the Pleiades sector began to increase with many reports of hyper-interdictions dominating the area, but it was the discovery of large organic base-like sites on June 27, 3303 that caught the attention of many. The Longinus, along with many other ships, joined in the efforts of surveying and studying several Thargoid base sites. This included the discovery of a star map that projects itself within the innermost chamber of the base when activated. Although the star map is an enigma to many, it prompted I.G.N.I.S. command to deploy the Longinus on its next major mission, Operation Reach, that again takes her into the depths of deep space in September 4, 3303 with the objective to gather data on certain celestial bodies. During Operation Reach, a full out war with the Thargoids began in mid-September and escalated with the Thargoid attacks on starports with Aegis assets in mid-December.

By the 28th of February 3304, Operation Reach concluded, and the Longinus began to make her journey home after stopping for repairs in the asteroid base New Growth in the Pencil Sector that is in the middle of Guardian space. Before her departure from New Growth, she was rerouted to rendezvous with Hornet and Tiger squadrons at Synuefe EU-Q c21-10 on Planet A3 where they were examining a new type of Guardian ruins site. Details for this side mission included acquiring 4 deactivated Guardian Sentinel drones, data from what has been dubbed an Ancient Data Terminal and the inclusion of Guardian components. Although the mission run time was slated for two weeks, it was completed in half the time needed as the Longinus prepares to head out to Ram Tah's base in the Meene system while also transporting eighteen of Ram Tah's researchers back to base.

Unfortunately during transit, things took a turn for the worst as one of the sentinels reactivated and fired its missiles while inside the main cargo bay. This severely damaged the interior of the Longinus by destroying three decks, that also cause multiple hull breaches, and severely damaging the power plant and destroying the FSD module. Out of the eighteen of Ram Tah's researchers on board, twelve were killed and four severely wounded; and out of the Longinus' main crew members on board the casualties were seventeen dead, three wounded, and two droids destroyed. With her crew rescued by Hornet Leader, the Longinus was left dead in space until she was retrieved by an I.G.N.I.S. megaship carrier. After evaluation, most of her superstructure frame was surprisingly intact and began a lengthy process of internal reconstruction and refurbishment. After her decks and components were restored by June 27, 3304 she was given another refit with a new paint scheme and to include Guardian and advanced human technology as well as highly re-engineered components. Besides several trials, she would not see action for months until October 17, 3304 where she takes on her first journey to Colonia.
