Description
Initially, Moribus Astrium (Corvette) was adjusted from Thargoid Interceptor to Scout battles, to help more in the fight against incursions at that time. It was only after completing the upgrades and using the Corvette in those sessions, that I went back to the drawing board and considered a second Anaconda to take over the role in Thargoid Scout combat.
I found that Anaconda's have an advantage over Corvettes for their intended AX Scout hunting usage, albeit with small trade-offs. Triarius (Anaconda) vs Moribus Astrium (Corvette) differences being:
• Jump Unladen: 21.79 vs 15.86 - Triarius has an extra 5.93LY jump range, making it more practical.
• DPS: 130.3 vs 91.4 - Triarius causes a lot more DPS and from that, 82.4 vs 62.4 AX DPS, plus much better thermal vent cooling.
• Hitpoints: 4,333 vs 4,048 – Triarius has an extra 285 hitpoints.
• Caustic Hitpoints: 4,802 vs 4,721 – Very close ratings with Triarius having an 81 hitpoint advantage.
• Module Armour: 777 vs 518 – Triarius has 1/3 more, at 259 extra module hitpoints.
• Module Protection: 94% vs 84% - Triarius rated 10% higher.
• MJ Shield: 3,674 vs 4,286 – This is the key point for Moribus Astrium, with its 612 extra shield hitpoints.
• Speed: 246 vs 256 (Boost 328 vs 333) - Very close ratings with Moribus Astrium having an extra 10m/s (Boost 5m/s).
Due to the surprising findings and as I'd owned another Anaconda Viatorem (my main exploration ship) for 6 years, I settled on the decision to add Triarius to the fleet in November 2021.
Comparing them hands on and with the higher AX DPS output of Triarius, better beam range and cooling, hull and module protection, plus jump range, it’s generally a better Scout hunting ship. The lower overall shield isn’t really noticed and 12 shield cells are there, if ever needed.
At the point of completing the build, I decided to move every one of my ships to the fleet carrier, Byzantium. Like all ships now, Triarius can quickly be deployed to any locations and incursions.
