The Lonesome Trail

05 Mar 2018Noah Millea
We've been travelling almost a week now but we are almost there. Just a few more hours and we'll arrive in Colonia at long last. It's been a trying week for everyone, but the crew and the Minotaur held up admirably. There's only so many days worth of hundreds of jumps you can make without getting sick and tired of it though. We did have a few exciting moments when we discovered a few previously unscanned Terraformable Water Worlds, and we even found an Earth-Like World, though we weren't the first ones to find that one. Nevertheless that raised everyone's spirits.

The Minotaur has been an incredible ship. This thing is secondhand as all hell but not one problem has cropped up, except when Reills plotted a course a few light seconds too close to a star while scooping fuel. Not his fault though, I should have been paying attention. Other than that though the ship has lived up to the name; finding the route through the circuitous galaxy without leading us astray once. I couldn't ask for more.

Calderon, the crewmember who was slacking off earlier in the journey, came and had a talk with me the other day. He said he didn't mean to be lazy, he just had bigger aspirations than being an engine mechanic. He wants to fly a fighter and is willing to stay on with me for as long as it takes to get him into one if I promise that I'll make it happen. I told him it would be a long time, after we made it back to human-occupied space at least, but that I would do that for him. I promised that on the condition that he shape up and do his best to help the ship run smoothly. After all, he can't fly a fighter if we never get home to have one installed. Only time will tell if he takes the promise to heart. In the mean-time I've had his simulator scores in the CQC Tournament sent to my terminal to check up on him and I have to say I'm impressed. For a kid who has no Federation combat ranking he's been doing pretty darn well for himself. We may actually have a good fighter pilot on our hands.

For now though it's almost time to dock up in Colonia and relax for a couple days. I'm planning some sightseeing myself. Why come this far and not play the part of the tourist?
