An old familiar feeling

06 Sep 2016Valorin
I spent more time at home, on Earth, meeting back with old friends, family, places I last visited when I was much younger. And what should I say? I grew familiar with all this again, settled in, started to rejoin live among the busy crowd.

Then, one day, I was looking into the sky and an ancient melancholy took hold of me. Something very nostalgic. The old familiar feeling of being a small insignificant dot compared to the vastness of the universe. Stars far away and unreachable. It gripped me for a while and I was staring into the sky in awe.
Then I saw a small light, slowly crawling across the firmament. It was getting faster and came closer until I was able to hear the hum of engines, growing into a roar as the ship approached and thundered past me, doppler effect still ringing in my ears. It left me startled, in some weird state of pleasant shock. Like suddenly waking up, being clear and awake in an instant.
I know the sound of a Cobra MK3 when I hear it.

Three days later I climbed into the cockpit, set a course and rejoined the sky. Stars unreachable? My a**!
Do you like it?
