I had a terrible dream a couple of days ago. It felt so real, it still haunts me. I was on a surface mission, just done transferring a few containers into my cargohold via SRV. Systems were booting up, course was set and I remember setting the throttle to max when the display flashed "Scan detected". Weapon fire. It happened so fast I was barely able to react. The afterburner howled while the shield sizzled down under steady laser impact. High wake target obscured, low wake, but still mass-locked. Alarm was flashing as the shield collapsed and the lasers sawed away my ship's hull. The last thing I remember was sparks, then the thrusters went offline and the planet's surface was tumbling across my vision when the holo display went dark, and with it the smoke, the flashing red warningsand finally my vision. I woke up.
"Not fast enough". That thought ran through my mind again and again until I set course to Elvira's workshop to get my long overdue drive tuning.
