Captain’s Log, October 27, 3306Where do I belong? The recent “crackdowns” on Marlinists, a group I greatly sympathize with, inside the Empire has left me wondering where I belong. I renamed the Shadow Wolf to the more appropriate Lupus Libertati. I can’t support the Empire anymore. Not like this. I grieve for Aisling Duval over the loss of her father. But blood does not call out for blood. Marlinists… like myself, want to see the Empire become what it was always meant to be: a democratic counterpart to the Federation that actually represents our people. Now so many are seeking sanctuary in the Federation. I have no love for the Feds nor will I ever. But I no longer can stand by the Empire as it strikes at its own people.
Let me be clear, what happened with this NMLA is a tragedy and a travesty. Those terrorists had no right to murder a member of the Duval family who wasn’t even politically active! All its done is make the Empire even less likely to change. And these crackdowns have shown the Empire’s true face. From Fire Fade to Beta Caeli, we are NOT a free society.
A year ago, I was supporting the Empire in a fight against Nova Imperium. I wanted us united against the Thargoids and a revolutionary party that wanted to drag us further into backwards imperialism with a nobility of solely men. How many Marlinists died in Paresa fighting an Empire that now loathes them just as much as Hadrian Duval? Now the Imperium is gaining power and the Empire is marching down a death march. This is not my Empire.
Even if Scylla is my home, I have no place with the Federation either. The Alliance?! Hah! They are so bureaucratic they couldn’t tied their shoes without filing 10 forms. But they are expanding with holdings in the California and Witch Head Nebulas, while the Feds and Imps fight it out. Maybe. Colonia? Hmmm not so sure. I’ve been out that way, but... its so far from the Bubble. I wouldn’t be able to come home in any reasonable amount of time. Maybe its time to become a deep space miner, living and working out of some asteroid base in one of the nebulas. That’s an option.
In either case, that Imperial logo has no place on my hull…
