CMDR Log - Learning a New Trade

I’ve asked my squad to help me train in Thargoid hunting. We have a great group of experienced bug hunt pilots who have been very helpful. My first task is to build my ship.I’ve chosen a Krait MkII. Its a fast and powerful platform to fly, but the weapons and engineering I need are mostly new to me. After flying around for what seems like months putting together the materials and upgrades I need, I’m almost there.
My main responsibility as I see it now is to hone my knowledge of the Thargoids. In order to be a successful hunter, you must know your prey. I’ve spent time in Guardian space recently, fighting skimmers and twisted old puzzles to finally get the blueprints for their Gauss Cannon. The squad tells me its a must for killing the critters, so off I went and now the ship is armed with 4 class 2 units along with a flak gun to keep off the swarm!
Apparently, when a Thargoid feels threatened, they release a host of nasty little ship/missiles called The Swarm that will cover and kill you if you give them a chance. Flak is the best way to manage them if you can’t just stay out of range. Then, there is the caustic weapons they fire at you. If one of these hits, your hull will begin to melt around you. For caustics, you either need to deploy a neutralizing limpet to wash off the ship, or you can sometimes intentionally overheat the drives to actually burn the caustics off your hull. Either way, its best to stay out of range of these.
Although I still have a few more engineering upgrades I need to complete, I plan on starting live fire training with the squad very soon.
My new ship the LLV Raptor a dedicated AX fighter for the 528th.
