The Call of the Core

I can feel the call of the Core. That brilliant band of golden light stretching across the utter black of space beckons me with its promise. 400 billion stars, stretched across so many lightyears. And all of them within reach.Even with our advances, we touch barely a few thousand of them. We know only a few million of them beyond the barest of basics, seen through long range scanners and high-powered optics.
To truly know them, the stars and whatever companions it has, takes a special kind of person. People willing to go out into the unknown with nothing but their ship's hull between them and the deadliness of the cold, unforgiving space that fills the void between the stars.
It takes an Explorer to learn to know these distant dots of light. And Man has ever been driven by the need to know. From the earliest frontiers, bound to Earth as we were, through our first stumbling steps into space, and until today, we have ever sought to widen our horizons.
And now it is almost time to go. Not alone, like so many other Explorers before me. But as part of a wave of humanity, sweeping into that bright expanse and then beyond, back into the Black to find answers, maybe even to questions we don't yet know we have.
The Core is calling. I will answer. And I will know it.
