LOG ENTRY 2: TIME FLIES

25 Apr 2021Roman Sharpe
I struggle to believe it has almost been a year since my last, and only log entry. What happened to keeping a track of my life and its journey!

So where to begin....

I followed up on Mia's suggestion and contacted the squadron leader she mentioned. We met up at a local starport and propped up the bar as they filled me in on their plans and how they felt I could fit in and help out. After leaving I felt a buzz I hadn't had since my days as a trader, that rush you get when all the hard work pays off and that haul you sweated for earns you the big bucks!

The squad are looking to make an impact and a name for themselves in the Thargoid war. Between them they have a couple of fleet carriers and a fair amount of experience hunting goids. Having only ever seen a Thargoid once, I was interticted on my way back from investing a crashed Thargoid scout ship, they recommended I ride shotgun on a few of their system sweeps and see some goid combat first-hand. It was eye opening, I'll say that much!

There is something addictive about hunting Thargoids, once you have had your first taste of taking one out, it is hard to stop. It is easy to see how the Thargoid rhetoric builds, how people justify the war and their actions. Make no mistake, the Thargoids are deadly and equally a match for humans in a fight but so far I have yet to see one strike first. I have heard the stories whilst in bars, same as everyone else. Those pilots who talk about how they 'know someone who knows someone' who was dragged out of hyperspace and set upon, barely escaping with their lives but they did escape to tell the story (often endlessly). I can't help but feel we are missing something, that there is something important that we are not understanding.
