2-22-3305: Was Only a Matter of Time

22 Feb 2019Ingrid Elfridr
I've been at Reightler Dock for only around five months, yet it has been the most interesting five months that I've had since my onionhead days in my early twenties. Granted none of what's happened in the last five months has resulted in me being handcuffed to a security services shuttle in my underwear, but it has been interesting nonetheless: Helping establish a political regime, getting a shovel and digging said regime out of the metaphorical gutter after getting our asses kicked for two weeks, dealing with pirate attacks on a weekly basis and spies bringing Imperials into the equation. Imperials!

I'm just going to shut up, otherwise I'll be on a row about this crap all night. Is it night, so to speak?

Best not to think about that too much, pretty sure I've been up for almost a couple of days. Dark chocolate covered coffee beans work wonders while on long patrols, especially since we're still having to guard our mining ships rather closely. More and more heads of the hydra that people refer to as 'the superpowers' have been showing up and scouting the system. This has been the trend for at least the last three and a half months. When I got here the system was pretty much uncontested as none of these people had an interest in a system that was run by multitudes of pirate hordes while security was whistling dixie in the midst of a metaphorical circle jerk. As soon as the dust settled from the war that was fought over the system that was when they started putting their agents, enforcers, sentinels and whatever else they fancy themselves to be out in the field. The fact that Rui took over as soon as that was over nearly made my blood boil, as Starkill had been in the midst of striking some sort of deal with one of his spokesmen when the war broke out in the first place. Perhaps it was just me being skeptical, as I don't exactly take things at face value if something seems off. Just as long as the corporation doesn't treat my guys like an ill-tempered junkyard dog to unleash.

It took some time for the population of Reightler Dock to settle down after all that and I can't say that I blame them. Hell it took a week before we finished cleaning up some areas of the starport that had more or less become large-scale crime scenes. Those who fled took quite some time to come back when they heard of all of this from friends and family who stayed. There are many who settled down elsewhere and I can't say I blame them either. It's all I can do to hope they're out of the way of what's been cropping up nearby.

The reports began coming in about three days ago starting with the Veja Deng system. It didn't take long before more reports began coming in: Palanti, Ariatia, Camulus, Anca, etc. A local research group that studies the Guardian relics moved in late last year so needless to say they began accumulating over time, at least enough to make me worry with them attacking stations inside a 150 LY radius. Luckily as a consequence Bloodbound Harvest will be ready to fight if they do happen to show up, but no matter how prepared we are the recent pandemonium is still fresh in the memories of those who were here when hell broke loose at Reightler Dock. Tensions around the starport have been rather high lately, like the period of calm before the roll cloud passes over your head and the meteorological turd slams into the turbine back on Earth.

Needless to say we have tried to maintain as much normalcy with our work as possible but people have seen our anti-Thargoid ships coming back from outfitting in the Diaguandri system. The folks in the shipyard who calibrated the equipment and the dock workers who unload the relics took notice first, then the guys at the warehouse hear about this who know of the containers full of Guardian relics that we have stored under their roof.

This fish just keeps on getting bigger.

Luckily we haven't had any trouble within Reightler Dock itself lately, but it's easy to see that folks are in a state of preparation. Being so busy with the pirates it's a bit of a shot in the dark as to whether or not we would be able to repel an attack on the station itself, but at least we stand more of a chance than we did before this fiasco broke out. Honestly I don't think that we will be noticed, however at the same time I refuse to risk us getting caught with our pants down and possibly being metaphorically bent over a table.
