Stubbornness Has Benefits.

21 Apr 2019Ingrid Elfridr
As luck would have it Odin hates having his liquor cabinet raided and Hel said she didn't want any competition. She also told me I wasn't allowed to do naughty things to Bauldr despite his being gift-boxed. As luck would have it the cockpit was still intact after ol' Skuld got ploughed by bugaboos, without buying me dinner first to boot. As luck would have it a convoy of truckers happened to be very close by when the distress ping began to hit the channels in that area of the Pleiades Sector. As luck would have it the nearest starport had been a five minute trip away and the Thargoid ships had already left the area. Lastly, as luck would have it I never brought the cat along on missions; That would've ended badly.

Consequently what used to be my favorite ship is now a strewn cloud of whatever shit is left that the aircraft tape didn't hold together in said sector of the void. Yeah I admit that I asked for it, but the thing about people like me is that we simply don't know when to stop pushing it. That's also the part of me that sometimes enjoys pissing people off for a bit of fun. All that aside I'm now able to appreciate how a truckers' weigh station docking pad must feel at the end of a busy day. Imagine making gelatin and letting it chill in a paint can, then put the shebang in the paint shaker for twenty seconds, then imagine that happening to your guts. Folks, believe me when I tell you falling off a ten meter cliff sounds like a vacation. Sure the ship was blown to shit, but the cockpit was intact and I'd been somehow thrown under the flight console like a cigarette butt. Despite all that I'm somehow still in one piece, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it. I swear people are doing crap to make me laugh just to get back at me being so hard on them. Can't really blame anybody there, yet sometimes you have to be an ass to get peoples' attention and push them to reach a goal. I'm just grateful that the pirates didn't have a party in my absence, we've been having to slap them down at least once a month anytime they get any chutzpah.

Honestly I've been going stir crazy at Reightler Dock for the last two days, Breez had my ships grounded for the next week until I'm cleared to fly again, and she really enjoyed relaying that information. Considering I was forced to use the airlock to cut her arm off after an accident a couple of years back I suppose we are even now. At least in the spare time I can get a few things done that I've been neglecting, actually properly archiving all the information I gathered from the last two and a half months from exploring instead of throwing it onto holo-discs until I can't stuff any more data in. It's boring busy work in comparison to what I usually do on a normal day, but it's better than being entirely bored.  The next order of business is replacing Skuld, and Todd was more than happy to write that one off. Yeah she was a death trap, but she was my favorite piece of junk.  Todd decided to go over my head and make executive decisions about how the new ship will be outfitted. I'm not going to interfere there, the old Scot has been working on ships for almost forty years and I undoubtedly scared the shit out of him. Here's to hoping he doesn't load her down with too much armor, as his solution is the same as mine in many situations: Tank ship.

As for the trip that I planned to take, that simply isn't going to happen. Feeling like shit didn't keep me from turning over a couple of tables and breaking things, but then again their decisions and constantly pestering me about needing their 'precious data' resulted in the loss of my ship. They were wise to consider themselves lucky they didn't get bent over those tables afterwards. Either way when factoring in a mining company recently moving in combined with pirates constantly testing us for weaknesses I couldn't leave for months anyways. At least Liao-Kawinski Tech doesn't bug me for their data or trinkets, they simply wait for me to bring them into port.

I'm going to sign off for now, in the meantime I'm going to think of something mischievous to do on that random planet that I discovered about six weeks ago, as Vikings love messing with future generations of gullible people.
