Trixi: Commander, you and I need to have a serious discussion about what's going on at Reightler Dock.
Rho Tefnutet: I second that, did you even get that memo I sent out last week?
*Cigarette lighter flicks*
Ingrid Elfridottir: Okay, and of course I got the memo. That housing block that got trashed during the Imperial invasion is already being rebuilt, the clinics have been restocked and we have new supply lines coming in from Ibold Port. What's the problem now?
Trixi: The problem is that lazy damn Dictator of yours, whose ass I have no idea why you are continuing to cover.
Ingrid: Trix, I cover his ass because it's my job. You know I'm not interested in getting into the politics of-
Trixi: Yeah, and how has that been going for you? Does it look to you like he has been handling the politics correctly?
Rho: Have you forgotten that if you hadn't intervened twice last year we would have had just as many unnecessary wars?
Ingrid: Tefnutet, how could I forget that? Digging up two months' worth of flight data, then scouring a Guardian ruin for 64 tons of relics as a peace offering was much more effort than I would like to put in on part of his fuck ups.
Trixi: What about what happened in Haritanis when he picked that fight with MMU that he was losing?
*Sigh*
Ingrid: Yeah, Culinus got in over his head and we had to go rescue his men from getting their asses kicked. Look you two, exactly what are you getting at?
Trixi: You practically handle the vast majority of his business, Elfridr. You could take charge of all of the Dictator's operations yourself and still get a lot more done than him.
*long pause*
Ingrid: Trix, pay careful attention to your words. Do you have any idea what you have just asked me to do?
Trixi: You once told me that people like you don't mince your words, and you prove it on a regular basis. I don't mince mine either, and you are well aware of it.
*long pause*
Ingrid: Tefnutet, what's your stock in this? Did you and Trix speak about this before you entered my ship?
*short pause*
Rho: Only a bit, but this sentiment has been going around Valhalla for some time. A lot of people who work for you see it the same way.
Ingrid: You knew this was going on and you never brought it to my attention before? Why?
Rho: Mostly because I was afraid to say anything about it.
Ingrid: Tefnutet, bear in mind that you personally have been involved in many of the little blowups we have had around here. This deal with the Inquisitors that you insisted on getting yourself involved in almost got me arrested.
*long pause*
Trixi: We need to get back to the point. You have more backing than he does because you do most of the work and everybody knows it. Do you want to continue to metaphorically follow him around with a broom and dust pan?
Ingrid: I know that I am wasting my time when I get involved, that's why I moved our operations out here. Let him lay in that bed of nails he made himself.
Trixi: Okay, so he is laying in the proverbial bed of nails while the citizenry is directly affected by his inaction. I've seen the reports just like you. His decisions have impacted Reightler Dock in some pretty shitty ways that I've been watching while you do nothing but hunt.
Rho: What good is it to defend a system while home base falls apart? We would have nothing to go back to if something really bad happened. Plus the New Republic guys have grown soft. The way you talked about how easy it would be to pull an entire family of rabbits from their burrow on Earth, you look at New Republic the same way.
Trixi: He's right about that, New Republic wouldn't have much for combat prowess if you hadn't formed our branch. They would be sitting ducks if we weren't always watching their backs, just like those rabbits and you know it.
Ingrid: Okay, I see what you are getting at. What do you want me to do, knock on the front door of his office and Sparta kick him out of the nearest window? You know that would start a shit storm that nobody aboard Reightler Dock wants to be involved in.
Trixi: That might not be necessary. If his men hear that you want Culinus' head on a platter they are too afraid to stand in our way. They would just wind up getting themselves killed.
Ingrid: I do not want anybody's head on a platter, Trix. Not right now at least, and not his.
Rho: You don't have to want his head on a platter, but you would be doing three million people a favor if you took over.
Ingrid: I have no desire to be a dictator.
Trixi: Okay, not a dictator, but what is that weird title that your dad has back home? Clan chief?
Ingrid: Jarl.
Trixi: Same thing and you know it.
Ingrid: Trix, he got to where he is because he killed his father in a fight. Eventually he will be challenged and the same will happen to him. On top of that it's nothing lofty having to keep order amongst a bunch of woodspeople.
Rho: History proves the same thing tends to happen to dictators.
*long pause*
Trixi: You have the support, you have the troops, skill and firepower. Either fix things or don't, we just want you to be aware of what your people have been discussing when you aren't around.
Ingrid: On top of what you and Rho have also discussed, yeah?
Trixi: Pretty much. Why else would you see me around the research labs?
Rho: Will you at least think about fixing things before the Dictator messes up something else diplomatically? I'm having trouble keeping up with all the updates anytime he does something on a whim.
Ingrid: I'm not saying that I will do anything now, but I have heard what you two are saying. In the meantime this conversation never happened as far as I'm concerned. Dictator Culinus and I are going to have a discussion. If he doesn't heed my advice then something may need to be done, as much as I balk at the idea.
Rho: You are always on people about keeping focus on the job while on the job, Ingrid. Taking matters into your hands to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid might be your job soon.
Ingrid: Okay, you two have put in your two cents: a lot of people are pissed and want me to fix it. In the meantime I need you two to keep your lips sealed about this. No discussing it to anybody in Bloodbound Harvest or New Republic or all of us will be shot for treason. If I am so much as approached about this by anybody else I will deny having been told anything. You're dismissed.
